What Are Bad Oils?

We call them PUFAs. That stands for polyunsaturated fatty acids. Sounds fancy, right? But these are the oils that come from seeds.

Think canola oil… soy oil… safflower… sunflower… grapeseed… and peanut oil.

All those bottles lined up in the middle aisles of your grocery store? Yep. Those are the ones.

You might remember Crisco. My mom used to bake pies with that stuff. Back then, we didn’t know any better. The food industry pushed these oils hard. They were cheap. Easy to use. And they stayed solid at room temperature.

The Cholesterol Confusion

Part of the problem started when the world declared war on cholesterol.

Remember that?

Suddenly, butter was bad. Lard was evil. Eggs were suspect.

So people turned to margarine. And seed oils. Why? Because they had no cholesterol.

But here’s the truth...

Cholesterol isn’t bad. Your body needs it. Every cell in your body needs it. Your hormones need it. Your brain needs it.

But we bought into the myth. And that myth led us straight into the arms of these bad oils. 

Good Oils vs Bad Oils

Now not all oils are bad.

There’s one kind that’s actually really good for you. That’s omega-3 fatty acids, especially the kind that’s high in DHA.

Why?

Because your brain is made of fat. And DHA is brain food.

So when someone calls you a fathead… take it as a compliment!

But these PUFAs… these seed oils… they’re the opposite of brain food. They do serious damage inside your body. Let me explain how.

Dangerous Things Bad Seed Oils Do

1. They Cause Inflammation

Now inflammation isn’t always bad. If you’ve got an infection, your body needs inflammation to help fight it off.

But if there’s no infection? That inflammation sticks around… and starts hurting you instead of helping you.

It damages your blood vessels, your organs, your tissues. Long-term inflammation is behind so many chronic diseases today.

And guess what feeds it?

Bad oils. 

2. They Speed Up Aging

This one’s called oxidation.

Think of cutting an apple in half and leaving it on the counter. Within an hour, it turns brown.

That’s oxidation. And the same thing happens inside your body.

These oils speed up that process. They rust you from the inside out.

The more oxidized your body gets, the faster you age… and the more damage you take.

Your gut is where your immune system lives. It’s where inflammation starts. And it’s deeply connected to your brain.

This one’s huge. Literally.

If you and I had left Earth in 1970 and came back today… we’d think another species had taken over.

People are so much bigger now. And I’m not talking about height.

Obesity is out of control.

And it’s not just about calories. That’s an old idea.

The real culprit? Bad oils.

They mess with your metabolism. They disrupt your hormones. And they make it easier for your body to store fat. 

5. They Cause Insulin Resistance

Your body uses insulin to move sugar out of your blood and into your cells.

But bad oils mess with your cells. They make them resist insulin.

That means sugar stays in your blood longer. And insulin has to work harder and harder.

Over time, this leads to metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, and all sorts of chronic issues.

And remember—these oils are hidden in everything. Salad dressings. Packaged snacks. Even so-called “healthy” frozen meals. 

What Should You Do?

The best thing you can do?

Avoid seed oils.

Stick to healthy fats like:

  • Butter
  • Olive oil
  • Coconut oil
  • Avocados
  • Fatty fish like salmon

Eat whole foods. Shop the outer aisles of the grocery store. Cook more meals at home. And read labels—especially on anything that comes in a box or a bottle. 

Final Thoughts

We were sold a lie. They told us seed oils were healthy.

But the truth is, they’re behind a lot of what’s making people sick today.

They cause inflammation. They oxidize your cells. They hurt your gut. They make you gain weight. And they lead to insulin resistance.

It’s not about fear. It’s about knowledge.

Now that you know… you can make better choices.

So skip the PUFAs. Pass on the margarine. And bring back the butter.
