1863. The Surprising Link Between Muscle and Cancer

And as you get your notifications, we'll call this a news day. What's new? What new research has come out and I'll keep you updated.
Okay, let's go through a few studies here. Serum vitamin D levels and vertigo specifically Meneer's syndrome.
Now I wrote a paper on Meneer's in 1974. Okay, I did a study on Meneer's nauseated and vertigo, Specie, that's Meneer's.
You know what they're showing? They're showing people who have Meneer's vertigo, they're low in vitamin D.
Guys, I told you the story. We had a guest lecture, Linus Pauling, famous for winning a Nobel Prize in medicine on vitamin C in the 1970s.
He lectured and in my head, okay, in my head, I said, well, he's right. Okay, about vitamin C because he showed especially with high doses it's work on cancer and that.
But the real vitamin C guys, you know this is coffee. This coffee is more powerful than ascorbic acid, but that's not the point.
The point is when Linus Pauling said that, I said, well, he's only missed by one letter in the alphabet. And what did I know in the 1970s about vitamin D?
Not much. The only thing that bothered me is people were starting to say you needed to get out of the sun and get sunscreen on your body.
I never liked that. It comes back from my high school days in a lab.
Well, I almost blew up a lab. You put a concoction together in a chemistry lab and then you add the Bunsen burner and disaster almost happened.
An explosion, add heat to chemicals. Not always good.
And guys, you know, I've been very consistent about that for a long time. The sun will save your life, will not kill you.
It will save your life. And was I right about that?
Well, study after study, after study, after study, sun, steak and steel are not backing down. Sun, steak and steel, vitamin D, even with vertical.
Okay, vertical. No, let me give you another one here.
Again, I always, just about always, lump these two together. Okay, sun, steak.
Why is steak so good for you? Well, there's a lot of reasons, but one of the main reasons is B12, right?
And you know me, I always talk and almost equally about the importance of vitamin D and B12 because the vast majority of people that live in North America are extremely low in vitamin D, extremely low in B12.
It's just a fact. Vitamin D, you can hardly get your doctor to test it.
And B12, the test doesn't tell you much. It's telling you the B12 in your serum, but it's not telling you the amount of B12 at the cellular level.
It's one of the reasons I like measuring nitric oxide. And the other reason I like measuring homocysteine.
But anyway, this study is showing, okay, so a brand new study on vertical, manures specifically, and low levels of vitamin D, almost invariably.
And then they looked at dementia and they measured blood work that was done in the past on dementia patients, okay, a database study. And you know what they found in dementia?
People had low levels of B12. Why?
Why? Well, the world went stupid.
Red meat'll kill you. Well, you know, without red meat guys, I'm sorry, you don't get B12 in food.
There isn't a vegetarian or a vegan or whatever. If they're not taking B12 sublingually, they're making a huge mistake.
I had a lot of young people come to my office, a lot of them in NEMEC, especially young women. And no one told them why they were exhausted all the time.
I said, well, do you eat steak? Oh, no.
It's got eyeballs. Any animal that's got eyeballs, I won't eat, doc.
I said, can I change your mind? You know, can I change your mind?
You're missing out on some huge nutrients, especially B12 and your heme iron. It's not found in anything else.
I'm sorry. What are you going to do about that?
You made a decision based on religion. I call it religion because it's a mindset.
It's not science. Am I against you eating vegetables and fruit?
I don't care. You can eat vegetables and fruit.
What do I say all the time? Just don't live on them.
You're not meant to live on that. You're not a herbivore.
You're not a rabbit. You're not a cow.
They eat grass so you don't have to. Look, you want to have vegetables?
Go for it. Enjoy.
You want to have fruit? Go for it.
Just don't drink it. But don't live on it.
It doesn't have the amino acid profile that you need. Your body needs a complete amino acid.
Well, I'm sorry. Well, I'm sorry.
They're not found in the plant kingdom. Your body needs heme iron.
It's not found in the plant kingdom. Pop-eyed light, B12.
It's not found in the plant kingdom. So association of low B12 with the incident of dementia in a database, they went back and they looked at all the people that had dementia.
Then they got their blood work and they looked and they said, well, you know what the common denominator was? Oh, they were low in B12.
Your brain needs B12. Your brain needs it.
It's an essential vitamin. If I could bring two vitamins into every senior home, I'd bring them B12 and vitamin D.
100%. And they're all low in it.
It's a rule of thumb. As you get older, your B12 is going down.
Why? Well, it's hard.
B12, I repeat this all the time. B12 is a finicky vitamin at the best of times.
It's finicky. It's a large vitamin by nature.
You got any kind of digestive issues. You're not absorbing B12 properly.
And it's associated. It's a nerve vitamin.
Well, what's up here, guys? Your brain cells, your nerve cells, your neurons.
B12 is essential. So you guys know this, but you know what?
Repetition, repetition, repetition. And I'm a simple guy, but you're not getting me off of it.
Because I've seen it. I've seen it in my office so often.
People just, they don't realize how important these two vitamins are. B12 and vitamin D.
Study after study after study. Name an organ.
Okay. B12 and dementia in the frontiers of medicine.
Hmm. Right?
Vitamin D and vertical. Usually very low in vitamin D.
You can test it. B12, look, I mean, I got a sweet spot.
It's just because I looked at tens of thousands of blood work over the years. I mean, way more than that.
And I sort of had a sweet spot that you could take the B12 test even though I didn't like it. I really didn't.
Because, again, the reason is like B12 floating in your serum is not necessarily B12 floating in your cells. And that's where you need the B12.
You need that in your cells and in your tissue. And the B12 test, I think I've said this in at least five books I've written.
We should give it a party and put it to bed and get a better one. Well, there really is better.
Homo-cystionine will give you a better indication of true B12 at the cellular level. And anyway, good luck trying to get your Homo-cystionine.
Check. Some doctors, if you've got a doctor that will do any tests that you ask them for, get on the ground and kiss the ground.
That doctor walks on. Good.
Most doctors. What do you want to get that done for?
What do you want your vitamin D left? Your bones are good.
Why do you want that? The doctor Martin told me to get it done.
He's a quack. Why are you listening to him?
I heard that a lot. Okay.
Now, a new study on muscles again. Muscles for the wind.
Okay. What is my motto?
Get strong. Get strong girl.
Okay. And muscle.
It's an endocrine organ. Look, what I knew in the 1970s about muscle, here's what I knew about muscle.
I knew every name of every muscle in the human body. You had to memorize it.
Okay. And when I pass a test today, if I had to do it, maybe, maybe.
But here's what we knew about muscle. Muscle was very important for your bones.
Okay. Now, doctors don't know that.
They think you need calcium for your bones. And therefore, if they ever saw osteoporosis in the 70s, you know what they did?
They gave you calcium as a supplement. And a little dose of vitamin D, enough for a mouse, not for you.
Okay. That's what they did.
They didn't know that one of the most important things for bone is muscle. I knew that in the 70s.
That muscles were like anchors into the bone. The stronger your muscle, the stronger your bone.
Okay. Now we know much more about muscle.
Because muscles are now being studied as an endocrine organ. And it all started where they really started looking at muscles.
And what they really do, I remember writing a book in 2011 and talking about muscle and helping insulin. Okay.
Because there's a new study on muscle and I'm going to bring it to you. I promise.
I won't forget. Okay.
Let me read this about muscle contraction. This is coming out of my book, Serial Killers, Two Hormones That Want You Dead.
Now listen to this. Muscle contraction during exercise stimulates the uptake of glucose without any need for insulin.
Okay. So you guys remember this now.
Okay. When you eat, insulin is what?
A food hormone. Okay.
Insulin is a food hormone. You don't eat.
You don't have to worry about insulin. Now muscle contraction during exercise.
But you know what insulin does? Let's follow a piece of bread just for a second.
You eat a piece of bread. It turns to sugar in nanoseconds.
Bread is just sugar molecules holding hands. Okay.
Man shall not live by bread alone. I love bread though.
I can live on bread alone. I love bread.
Okay. They don't love me, but I love it.
Okay. Now muscle contraction during exercise.
Okay. I'm talking muscle.
I want to talk about insulin for a second. My brain.
Okay. Now when you eat a piece of bread, you need a lot of insulin.
Why? Because the bread turned to sugar.
And sugar now is in the no parking zone. Your blood vessels can't park there.
Right? You empty out your five liters and you're going to have less than a teaspoon of sugar unless you're diabetic.
Because insulin's got a job to do with not allowing sugar to park there. Come here.
You're in a no parking zone. Follow me.
I'm going to park you. Now the best spot for your insulin to park sugar is where?
In muscles. The bigger your muscles, the more parking spots you got for glucose.
That's really important. That's why it's classified as an endocrine organ.
Your muscles is an organ. Okay.
Now here's the research and this is 2011 when I wrote this. Muscle contraction during exercise.
So you know, you're exercising. You're contracting your muscle.
You're walking. Yes.
Stop that. But you're getting contraction of muscle.
Okay. So you can walk walk.
Best to do resistant exercises though. Okay.
But listen, when you contract your muscles, it stimulates the uptake of glucose without any need for insulin. Okay.
You don't even need insulin. And the less you use insulin, the less you have insulin resistance.
Right. If you're a carboholic, you use insulin day in and day out and your cells, they develop a resistance to it.
They go, I hate you insulin. You're always knocking at my door, at the muscles, at the liver, at fat cells, because those are parking spots for sugar.
And when the body runs out of parking spots, it makes more. That's why you see so much obesity today.
Why do you see so much obesity? Well, people are drinking sugar.
It's nothing in a soda to have 14 to 15 to 16 teaspoons of sugar in fruit juices, 14, 15, 16 teaspoons full of sugar. Your body doesn't know the difference between tropicana and a Pepsi.
Orange juice, the drink of choice. Well, you might as well have a Pepsi in the morning.
As far as insulin is concerned, you need a boatload of insulin because you're drinking it. So now you've got a lot of sugar in the bloodstream and your insulin is going, you can't park there, you can't park there, you can't park there.
Come with me. Come, come, come, come, come.
I got to park. Not a lot of muscles.
So you know what? I've got to park you in the liver now.
And the liver gets all fold up, even in kids. And you know what it does?
It makes more and more and more parking spots. Fat cells.
Fat is parking spots for sugar. Body can't leave it in your bloodstream.
It destroys your blood vessels rapidly. Ask a diabetic.
Okay. So muscle contraction during exercise stimulates the uptake of glucose without any need for insulin assistance.
This can last for two days after working out. It increases the density of glucose receptors in muscle cells.
And they continue to work to get rid of extra glucose. Okay.
Not unreal guys. Okay.
But that's not even the study I want to bring you. Okay.

Muscles and cancer. Oh, now our ears are perking up.

Muscles are a quiet, this is written around the study. Okay.
Muscles are a quiet defender of cancer. When you build your muscle, they release tiny particles loaded with tumor slowing molecule called MIR7A5P.
Leave it to medicine to have a name like that. Okay.
But MIR-7-A5P molecule. Uh-huh.
It kills the protein that tumors rely on to reproduce. Duke Medical School published in Nature last month.
Brand new. Hot off the presses.
Another reason to work out. Another reason to get stronger.
And I don't care guys. I've said this to you many a time.
I don't care if you're 80. It don't matter.
You can get stronger. Okay.
Like you're not going to be like you were in your 40s. You don't have to do that.
But if you can get stronger, it really, really is important. And we'll do another session on muscles.
There's so much research. It's incredible coming out.
I didn't know half of this stuff. I really didn't study.
I studied what we had in the 70s. Of course, I continue to study obviously, but you know, it's amazing to me.
