Announcer:  You're listening to The Doctor Is In Podcast, brought to you by MartinClinic.com. During the episode, the doctors share a lot of information. As awesome as the info may be, it is not intended to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent any disease. It's strictly for informational purposes.

Dr. Martin:  Well, good morning, everyone. Once again, welcome to another live this morning. We sure appreciate you guys coming on with us. When you can, if it's your birthday, let us know. Okay?

Okay, guys, let's get to a few studies. This is a study on water, vitamin W. Okay?

You guys in Niagara Falls, the water, right? The kidneys of Canada. And this study is showing even mild dehydration, even mild dehydration affects mood in women. You know what the problem is with dehydration?

You got to be very dehydrated before you know it. And the reason is, is because we don't have a little light on the top of our head that goes off and says, you know, add water. You know, it's not like your radiator in your car. You know, add water.

People don't realize they need water. Okay. So in my office, I used to measure blood viscosity, the thickness of blood. And you have no idea how many times I told patients because when they came in in the morning to see me, they were not only fasting, I didn't even want them drinking water at first.

Okay. And there was reasons for some of my testing for that. But anyway, at the end of the day, a lot of people, I said, your blood is as thick as molasses. You're dehydrated and you get dehydrated very quickly.

You just don't know it. You don't know it. Your body is like planet earth. 75% of planet earth is water.

75% of your body is water. And only water is water. Okay. Martin Clinic saying the doctor is insane.

One of the sayings is only water is water. How much water do you need? Okay. What's the sweet spot of water?

Two liters, 64 ounces. How do I know that? Well, I've been saying it for 50 years. One.

Two, I used to measure it and you put an enormous amount of stress on your body when you're dehydrated. And again, you don't have a light going off on the top of your noggin there telling you you're dehydrated. And I used to tell my patients this, you drink water, you'll thank me later. What?

You're leaving the office here with a plan to succeed. I want you to drink two things. I want you to drink water and I want you to drink coffee. And by the way, coffee does not dehydrate.

Now coffee is made with water, but it's not water. It's coffee. Only water is water. That's very important you understand that.

And they're showing that mild dehydration, even mild, starts to have an effect on the body. Now, let me give you another thing here on water. When you're dehydrated, you're actually affecting your insulin. What?

Insulin, you guys know this, is a food hormone. And insulin is a traffic cop, has to take sugar out of the bloodstream. But let me tell you, when you're dehydrated, you release a hormone called B.supressin. It tells your kidneys to hold on to water.

You're dehydrated and the body is saying, I better not get rid of any water. And so you have a hormone that tells your kidneys to hold on to water. When that happens, B.supressin does another thing. It increases your cortisol, your stress hormone.

And your stress hormone, okay, your stress hormone elevates your blood sugar. It's getting you going. And now you need insulin, even without eating, because cortisol has elevated your blood sugar. It's one of the things it does.

It's meant to be secreted to wake you up in the morning. And some cortisol is on your side. Lots of cortisol is not on your side at all. So when you're dehydrated, your cortisol gets elevated.

Your kidneys hold on to water. And your Niagara Falls, your kidneys of your body, not flowing like it should. Now, if your kidneys are not flowing with water, you're getting toxic. Kidneys need water to function.

Water over the kidneys, remember, your lungs, your liver, more than anything. And your kidneys, they help you get rid of toxins. Right? Well, your kidneys need water to function.

It's like your car, it needs gasoline. But your kidneys need water. And like I said, most people, they have no idea 70, 80% of the population don't drink enough water. You can't drink soda to replace water.

You can't drink juice. Oh, Dr. Martin, it's tropicana. I heard that a million times. It's tropicana. And I don't care. It ain't water. And it's full of fructose.

That's a whole other thing. That's going to gum up your liver. Fructose goes right to your liver, like alcohol. Okay?

Fructose and alcohol love liver. When fructose goes to your liver, guess what it does? It packs on fat. It's the Costco parking lot.

So guys, I'm telling you, drink two liters of water. They some need more, not less. I'm telling you, just clinical experience. I put that up against, look, and you can read, there's a lot of books on water and people got their different ideas.

But guys, I just, you know, like somebody said, well, Dr. Martin, are you a researcher? Not really. Okay?

Not really. But I had, but I had, I don't know, a hundred thousand patient visits, probably, in 50 years, a lot of experience measuring dehydration and how to fix it. And like I said, my patients, I'd say, okay, 99% of them walked out of my office with a plan on food and what to drink. Food and what to drink.

Vast majority were given the reset. They needed it. 30 days. Change your habits.

I want you to find out that you got a bad relationship with sugar. Your body's going to show you that. You got to trust me for 30 days and I'm going to show you your body has a bad relationship to the food you've been emphasizing. I want you to change that.

30 days, here's your plan. And I'm giving you a plan to succeed. It's not calories in and calories out. Has nothing to do with calories.

It has to do with nutrient density. I'm giving you foods I'm giving you foods that your body will thrive on. 30 days. And I'm going to aim particularly at your pancreas.

What? Your pancreas. The organ in your body dedicated to your blood sugar. We're going to fix that pancreas.

And when you fix the pancreas, you fix your liver. If you fix your liver, you're really helping your kidneys with water. See, liver, you want to de-gum your liver. Take the sludge out of your liver.

It's a major detox org. Your thyroid doesn't work without your liver working. Because most of the conversion of T4 to T3 that your thyroid needs comes from your liver. The Costco parking lot.

Keep it empty. Then it really works. And that's what the reset does. It empties your liver.

You have to eat anyways. Do you like eggs? Yeah, I love eggs, though. Good.

Eat lots. You love meat? Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I like meat.

Good. Eat lots. You like good dairy? Yeah.

You like cheese? Yeah. You like butter? Yeah.

You like cream? Yeah. Well, for 30 days, I want you to live on that. Just 30 days.

At the end of 30 days, well, way before that, you emptied your liver. Your kidneys say, thank you, that there's nothing that destroys kidneys more than sugar and dehydration. So when you went home with the EMC, eggs, meat, and cheese, you also went home with, you gotta drink two liters of water a day.

Two liters of water every day. And you'll, I don't like water. I said, I don't care if you don't like water. You will like water.

I promise. You have to make it a habit. These are habit-forming things. People, the only reason they're stuck, people are stuck because they can't change their habits.

And when you do, and it only takes about three weeks out of that 30 days to change a habit and reinforce it, you know what? I really realize now how much I needed water. Holy smokes. Water.

I'm getting used to it. You don't want kidney stones? Drink water. You need to detox.

And to detox, you need your liver to be empty. Your kidneys functioning properly. Your lungs don't even properly function without H2O. Most people are walking around and they're dry as a bone and they don't realize it.

Oh, they drink all right, but they drink everything but water. And can I put something in my water, Dr. Martin? Yeah, you can put a little lemon in there if you want.

Don't be such a baby. Oh, I used to have fun in my office. Men, they were the worst. Well, there's water in beer.

Oh, there's water in coffee. Oh, I said, I don't care if you drink water. Coffee. Of course, I want you to drink coffee.

But you got to drink water and you get used to it. And you form a habit. And then you'll never stop it. You'll reinforce it.

I get people almost on a daily basis telling me, Dr. Martin, thank you for getting me started on drinking water. I used to be able to get rid of people, 90% of like women that come in, okay. And a lot of young ladies, they get migraines, okay.

You know how I get a migraine when I hear something stupid, okay. I get a migraine and that's me. But I treat a lot of people with migraine, okay. And I always told them, look, you're hormonal because you got hormones.

You're estrogen dominant compared to your progesterone. And that's throwing your hormones off. That'll give you migraines. But so will dehydration.

So will dehydration. Now, you know, low magnesium, I used to find that too, can give you migraines. But guys, I'm telling you generally, and they don't drink water. Juice isn't water.

Tea isn't water. Coffee isn't water. It's not water. And you need water.

Mild dehydration, even mild dehydration affects mood. Body has to work harder. Your heart's got to work harder. A lot of times, even when I saw atrial fib in my office, a lot of people were dehydrated.

Wasn't the only thing. They were low in CoQ10. They weren't eating enough steak. Your heart needs steak.

CoQ10. Dr. Martin, what about, you know, taking a supplement? Okay.

I like you. You're a good person. Okay. I like ubiquinol.

CoQ10. I do. But I would rather you eat steak first. Again, so dehydration has a major effect on your heart.

Well, just think about it. You've got 60,000 miles of blood vessels, one and a half times around the equator in your body. And your heart's a pump. The blood got to go through, got to come back, got to go through, got to come back, got to go through, got to come back.

Your heart beats a hundred thousand times a day. You don't even think about it. But water makes the pump go. The water keeps your blood pressure down.

Flows. The Bible's right. It's the river of life. Your blood, the river of life.

It's flowing and bringing you nutrients to your cell. And H2O. Water. Water.

Okay. Let's see. Can I get another one? Okay.

Here's another one. Okay. Vitamin D. Oh, another study on vitamin D.

Surprise, surprise, surprise, surprise. Okay. Vitamin D status in midlife. Okay.

I'm way past that. Okay. When I hear this, okay, midlife. My kids are at midlife.

50s, right? Isn't that midlife? They call that midlife. It's really past the midlife point usually.

Okay. But think about it. In your 50s, I think that's what they're saying. Midlife.

Okay. If you lived a hundred years ago, you were in your 30s. You were in midlife. Okay.

Vitamin D status in midlife affects your inflammation status. Vitamin D and inflammation? Sun, steak, and steel. Is there anything negative about the sun?

No. It lowers inflammation. How do you like that? Remember, inflammation is not Houdini.

That's another Martin Clinic statement. You know me in analogies. Okay. I like to have my little saying.

Inflammation is not Houdini. I hear I do. And they say, well, inflammation is at the root of chronic disease. I read that yesterday.

Inflammation is at the root of chronic disease. And I go, hmm, yeah, but it's not Houdini. There's a step before inflammation. Your body just doesn't create inflammation unless you fall on your knee and you scrape yourself or you banged yourself or you fell and broke something.

Well, yeah, it's going to be inflamed. That's your body's ambulance system. But what about your body's ambulance system? It's going to be inflamed.

It's going to be inflamed. It's going to be inflamed. That's your body's ambulance system. But what about chronic inflammation?

Okay. What causes that? What causes that? And we talk about that all the time, right?

Caused by number one, bad food. Bad food elevates insulin. And insulin, once it becomes resistant, once your cells say insulin, would you get the heck out of my face? Insulin, you're in my grill, says your cell.

I'm tired of you. Well, insulin is if it could talk, it would tell your cells, well, tell crazy there, your body, tell him or her, stop eating sugar. And then I won't come around so much. Stop eating crappy carbs like the breads and the noodles and the pasta and the cereals and the sweets and the muffins and the bagels and everything that turns to sugar rapidly.

I'm sorry, insulin says. If you insist on eating crap, then I must be present because I can't allow sugar. Well, not the matter. I ate bread and it's whole wheat.

I don't care. It's going to be sugar in five seconds. Don't fool yourself. Don't be deceived.

So when your pasta or your noodle or your crappy dinner turns to sugar in five seconds, insulin has no choice but to come around at your cells and go knock, knock, knock. I got to put the sugar in. You can't park. It's in a no parking zone in your blood vessels.

Out, out, out. Come here. Come here. Come here.

You can't stay there. And then it comes in and knocks at your muscle cells and your liver cells and your fat cells and says, open up. I got energy for you. And it's going to be turned to fat.

So inflammation's not Houdini. When you use insulin all the time, your cells resist it. They go, oh, I'm so tired of that neighbor of mine. Oh, he's such a pest.

Such a pest. Keeps knocking on my door all the time. And guess what? That creates a silent inflammation.

So does leaky gut. Your body is fighting something. You don't know it necessarily because you're not getting any symptoms because people think leaky gut, you're going to get digestive issues. Maybe.

But you could have a yeast invasion in your body and you create a lot of inflammation, but you don't know it necessarily. You're not getting major symptoms of digestive thing. And one of the worst things that creates inflammation in your body is sugar, especially when you drink sugar. When you drink it.

Now, one of the things that helps with inflammation is vitamin D. That's what this study is saying. It helps with inflammation. It lowers inflammation.

Now, you can't out supplement. You guys know this. Another saying, you can't out supplement a bad diet. If you've got a bad diet, you go in the sun even and you'll burn in the sun.

There's a lot of evidence to that, especially not only sugars, but crappy oils. The middle aisles of your grocery store, processed foods. They've got bad oils. They're made with bad oils.

And again, inflammation is not Houdini, but vitamin D does help lower inflammation markers in midlife. I mean, I know it lowers inflammation in all of your life, but this is a study on midlife. Okay. Bad oil, soy, canola, read your label.

Margarine. Throw that garbage out. Use good oil. Olive oil, coconut oil, butter.

Is there a better oil than butter? No. Butter. Bacon.

Good oil. I love it. Okay, guys, you know what tomorrow is? Q&A.

Tomorrow's Q&A. Next week, we're going to do, I think, just because I've been working on this a bit, an anti-aging manifesto. Because I just read an article yesterday on how much money is spent. Hold on.

Let me just see if I can get it real fast. Because somebody put this out yesterday. $84 billion a year in the United States is spent on anti-aging. $84 billion.

Okay. Well, I'm going to talk to you about anti-aging. Okay. And it's not anything you haven't heard before, but I got my own protocol.

Okay. Anyway, I'm working on that. So we'll probably do that next week. Okay, guys, tomorrow's Q&A, it ain't too late to get your questions in.

You know what? People are asking, I saw that this week. They're asking, how do I send my question in to Dr. Martin for Friday?

Info at martinclinic.com. Info at martinclinic.com. Send your questions in. I promise, if I see it, to answer your question.

Okay. I promise. Because I like questions. Q&A.

And oftentimes, we had Q&A Monday too. We have Q&A Friday, Q&A Monday. Because I don't get to all the questions. But that's good.

There's nothing wrong with that. Most of our programming is based on questions. People ask the questions. I know I do studies and all that, but it answers a lot of people's questions anyways, doesn't it?

Okay. We love you guys. We'll talk to you soon.
