Dr. Martin: Well, good morning, everyone. And once again, welcome to another live this morning. Nice to have you on with us. We appreciate it big time.
Guys, thanks for coming on. We appreciate you guys much more than you know. Okay, now, somebody was asking again. So it's Q&A.
Well, to start, okay. Dr. Martin, how do we get our immune systems ready for winter? Yeah, winter's coming.
Okay. What is the flu season, guys? Think about it. The flu season.
Even the world out there says the flu season is when we see less sunlight. Right? Sun goes down. Flu season is upon us.
Right? That ought to tell us something. Okay. So how do you prepare for the flu season?
Okay. I used to talk about the natural flu shot. The natural flu shot. And I mean it.
Okay. So when I give you this, the natural flu shot, let me show you something first. Okay. Now, guys, if you're listening to this on our podcast, you won't see this, but I want you to visualize it for those who are watching this on our live Facebook.
Okay. So I'm going to show you here. Okay. And you guys might have seen this before.
I used to do this in my office all the time. Because besides the traditional blood tests, and I really, you guys know this, I love traditional blood tests if you look at those blood tests the proper way. Okay. I show you how to interpret your blood tests.
Okay. But one of the blood tests I used to do in my office, and I actually taught practitioners how to use live blood. Okay. I had a microscope in my office.
Actually, I had two of them. And every patient then came in, we would do a live blood. Now, one of the things I used to tell them, you can't see everything in there, but I like to look at it. Okay.
I like looking at live blood for several reasons, but here's one of them. Okay. I want to show you this this morning. Okay.
Now, I don't know how well you're going to see this, but I think you'll see it. Okay. What do you see there? Okay.
See the white blood cell? Okay. It's moving. You know what it's chasing?
A bacteria. So there's a neutrophil. I used to see this in my office every day. I never got tired of watching white blood cell mop up.
Okay. You see that again? It's still alive. See the white blood cell.
Okay. It's moving. Did you get the picture? Okay.
So for those who are listening to this at a later time on the podcast, I showed them live blood under a very powerful microscope. And the white blood cell, the neutrophil was absolutely very mobile, very quick, and it was chasing bacteria around. Amazing. It's amazing how your immune system works, guys.
Okay. You don't know it. You don't see it, but it's working. Okay.
Now let me make a couple of points about that white blood cell. Okay. That white blood cell loves, okay, listen to what I'm going to say, loves vitamin D. You can't see those receptors, but your white blood cells, your T cells especially, have receptors for vitamin D.
They have receptors for the sun. Okay. They are like an electric car. Okay.
And vitamin D charges their batteries. And the immune system, let me tell you that guys, will not work without vitamin D. And the best place, of course, to get vitamin D is the sun. Now vitamin D isn't just a vitamin.
It is a vitamin, but it's also a hormone. Vitamin D is absolutely essential. The more they study it, listen, I've been talking about vitamin D for more than 50 years. The importance of it.
When they were telling you to get out of the sun, I was telling you to get into the sun. Consistent, consistent, consistent. Because my parents' generation, okay, they bought stay out of the sun, hook, line, and sinker. Okay.
Hook, line, and sinker. They took it and oh, you know, the sun, bad. No, sun is good. Now burning bad.
Don't burn in the sun. But, and it's amazing that you burn in the sun when you eat the wrong foods. Especially those bad oils. The industrial oils that were made for your car and not for your body.
And the middle aisles of your grocery store are full of them. So, seed oils, bad oils, and it's amazing when you elevate your omega-6 compared to your omega-3, your skin pays the price of that. And people burn. This is why once they do the reset, which is 30 days of eggs, meat, and cheese, their skin is better.
Their skin is much less sensitive to the sun. It's unreal. Anyway, back to the immune system. The best way to get vitamin D isn't from the sun.
Okay. There's no doubt that's the best. But, and here's a big but. Most people don't get enough sun.
And sometimes it's not their fault. They just, they're not exposed to it enough. And guess what? Here in Northern Ontario, where I live, where I practice for 50 years in Northern Ontario, good luck with the sun.
It's fall. Okay. And we got the memo. It's fall.
You're not going outside, guinea dipping to get sun. Okay. You're just not. It's not available.
There's very little of it. And it's still good when it's a sunny day, but you're not getting vitamin D. You're getting melatonin, but not vitamin D. Okay.
So vitamin D from the sun, you got to have your solar panels exposed, which are your arms and your legs with no clothing on the arms and legs. So guys, anyway, you know this. Okay. For those who are new to this program, vitamin D, the sun.
Okay. You're not going to have a strong immune system if you don't have good levels of vitamin D. So when it comes to traditional testing, I am very big on vitamin D testing. Most people, they don't know, and I mean it, over 90%.
If we went around, go around your city, your town, and ask people what are their vitamin D levels, they have no idea. Nobody has tested them. And if they have been tested, they don't even know what it means. And guys, you know me, I'm trying to educate my audience.
I want you to know what your vitamin D levels are. Unfortunately, not all doctors, but most doctors don't see the significance of vitamin D because all they can think of with vitamin D, oh, your bones. Nah, yes, it's good for your bones, but it's much more important. It's so anti-cancer.
New study out. Vitamin D and breast cancer. It eliminates vitamin D levels, optimize levels of vitamin D, and I'll give you those in a minute. Eliminates breast cancer in 65% of women.
Eliminates it. Vitamin D, the sun. And when you can't get the sun, when you can't get the sun, you need to take vitamin D. Okay?
And of course, the world scares you with vitamin D. Medicine scares you with vitamin D. The FDA, Health Canada, they scare you. There's a war on vitamin D.
As if the waiting rooms in North America are full of people at the emergency department in doctor's office. I know why you're here. I know why you're sick because you took too much vitamin D. No.
And no one has ever died from vitamin D overdose. And I always bring you the research. Six months of 50,000 units a day. Now, nobody does that, but it's been done in research.
50,000. I use a vitamin D a day and guess what? Nothing happened. Like, now I'm not suggesting you do it.
What I am suggesting, what I am suggesting is that you do it. You do it. You do it. You do it.
You do it. You do it. I'm not suggesting you do it. What I am suggesting, what I am suggesting is you guys, if there's any test, even if you have to pay for it, in doing investment, find out what your vitamin D levels are.
It's very important. Now, let me tell you what optimized vitamin D is. Okay? In the United States, okay?
I start with you guys in the States. Okay? I like it. Okay.
Here's optimized. A little bit of leeway here, but here's what I like. Above 60, N-M-O-L-L. Okay?
It's the measurement in the United States of vitamin D levels. Your dehydroxy 25. Okay? That's the test.
It tells you what your vitamin D levels are. In the United States, I like them above 60. You'll get other doctors that like it 40 and up. Okay?
I like it between 60 and 100 in Nip. Optimized. And again, it supercharges your immune system. It is very anti-inflammatory.
It is so good for, vitamin D, by the way, is good for everything. But we're talking about a flu shot. We're talking about a natural flu inhibitor. Vitamin D.
I start with that. The sun. In Canada, okay? So Americans, I like it.
Just my experience over the years, 60 and above. 60 and above. In Canada, I like it between 150, the low end, okay? To 250.
Different measurement in Canada. Okay? Different measurement. Canada's N-M-O-L-L.
In the States, it's N-G-M-L. Who cares? Look for those numbers. Okay?
You want to be 150, the low end, but it's optimized. Low end of optimized to 250. United States, 60 to 100. Got it?
Got the memo? Did you write it down? Did you get your pen and paper? Vitamin D.
That's your flu shot. Here's what I do in the winter. I take between 5,000 and 8,000 I use a day. Tony Jr., he takes 10,000 I use a day.
Okay? And I get my Vitamin D levels checked, try and do it twice a year. And I'm optimized. I keep it optimized.
Okay? In the summer, I get lots of sun. Lots of sun in the summer. And you know what?
Remember, Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin. It means that your body stores it. So you can top it up in the summer. But you're completely safe.
Somebody's asking, is 254 too high? Nope. Ideal. I love it.
Okay? Got it? And the best way to take Vitamin D, guys, by the way, if you're going to take a supplement, make sure it's got K2 in it. Because it delivers K2.
When you eat an egg, you've got Vitamin K2. When you eat meat, you've got Vitamin K2. When you eat dairy, you've got Vitamin K2. Why is that important?
Because it takes calcium in your eggs, meat and cheese, and puts it in your bones where it belongs. That's why Vitamin K2 takes calcium. You don't want calcium in your bloodstream. It calcifies.
You want it taken into your, where? Into your bones. Okay? So for a healthy immune system, we start with Vitamin D.
Sun. I'm going to do the book. Sun, steak. Why do you want to eat steak?
And when I say steak, I mean red meat. Okay? You like hamburger. You like roast beef.
Pork, a little less, but you like your bacon, good for you. There's Vitamin D in that, by the way. How do you think the Inuit, formally called the Eskimo, how do you think they got Vitamin D? Not from the sun.
Not from the sun. They got it from food, they got it from food, and they ate blubber, and they had cod liver oil. Okay? And they got their Vitamin D from eating it.
The problem with eating it, you need to eat it every day. Okay? So sun, steak. Part of your immune system.
Why do I say that, guys? Why do I say steak? Vitamin A. Vitamin A.
Eggs, meat, and cheese. Vitamin A. Vitamin A is not found in carrots. Okay?
Oh, Dr. Martin, what about beta carotene? That is a precursor to Vitamin A. It's not Vitamin A.
Proretinol A is Vitamin A. That's found in the animal kingdom. It's not in the plant kingdom. And they always talk about Vitamin A for your eyes.
Yeah, but it's a mask, guys. It's an invisible mask. You know when they were wearing masks during COVID? That gave me a migraine.
As if covering your mouth and your nose helped you from a bacteria, a virus. It's craziness. But the invisible mask is the one I want you to wear. It's the one I want you to wear.
Eggs, meat, and cheese. Vitamin A. You don't have to supplement if you can eat it. Okay?
So I love Vitamin A. I really do. In food. In food.
And it's the invisible mask because it covers your eyes, it covers your nose, it covers your mouth. It's invisible, but you touch your eyes, you know, like people wearing a mask and then they rub their eyes. And if you think a mask, first day of medical school, you know what they teach you? You know what a mask does?
Covering your mouth? Nothing. Well, Dr. Merton, how come they wear it in surgery?
Because they don't want to spit on you on an open wound. Okay? It's not for the doctor. It's for that patient.
So they don't spit on them over an open wound. Anyway, don't get me going. I get a migraine. Okay?
Sun, steak. Steak. Vitamin A. You don't even think of it.
Vitamin A. Okay? Sun, steak, steak, steel. Exercise is good.
Don't stop moving. Movement. There's research on muscles and the immune system. How your immune system is better.
Not only when you move, but when you get strong. Okay? Sun, steak, steel. Okay?
And sleep. Sleep is very important for your immune system. Now we all know about the self-cleaning oven. It only works when you're sleeping.
Your brain has a self-cleaning oven. It detoxes. But they've shown. This is one of the reasons.
I used to say this on my radio show, years ago. People would go on a holiday. Okay? They'd go on a cruise in the winter and they'd get sick as a dog.
Like they'd get a bad cold and they're in the sun and they're finally getting some. Who doesn't love a winter vacation? But one of the things I used to try and teach them is don't lose sleep. Well, I got to travel.
I got to get up at four in the morning to catch a plane. And you miss out on some sleep and now your immune system crashes. Okay? They think it's in the plane and all the bacteria and all that in the plane.
That's not that, guys. It's your immune system. It's when you're missing out on sleep. Sun, steak, steel and sleep.
Have you ever heard of that before? Okay? The book. Why did it become a best seller?
Okay? Because people like the title. That's a great book, I think. Sun, steak, steel, sleep.
Can I give you another one? The real vitamin C? Coffee. Coffee.
Now, the other vitamin C, the one that everybody thinks is the real vitamin C, but it's not, is ascorbic acid. Now, am I against that? No. I'm not against it.
I got to tell you this. What's more powerful? Coffee or ascorbic acid? It's not close, guys.
It's not close. Coffee beats it every time. Okay? Oh, by the way, okay?
Let me go back. Let's see if I can bring this up again. This is really important. I'm going to show you something.
I talked about vitamin D, but I want to show it to you again. There. Okay? I'm bringing you back.
Can you watch that? See that white blood cell there? See it chasing the bacteria? See it?
See it? See it? Okay. You know what stops that white blood cell from doing that?
What charges it as the vitamin D? What I forgot to tell you is what kills it. What stops it from moving? You know what it is?
Sugar. When you consume, okay? And they've done the research on this. Okay?
Consume a can of Coke or Pepsi or soda or whatever. Your white blood cells go into a siesta. They fall asleep. They don't move.
Guys, I think it was on my radio show in 2005, might have been a little bit even earlier than that that I talked about that. I said there's research showing in live blood where white blood cells, when you consume sugar, they go to sleep for several hours. Do you think sugar is good for you? Honey?
I'm just calling you honey. Okay? A little bit of honey that different than sugar. Okay?
It really puts your immune system to sleep. Okay? So that's back to your white blood cells again. So the real vitamin C is coffee.
Do I like ascorbic acid? Yes. I like it. I like coffee better.
It's better for your immune system. It has much more polyphenols. It is so good for you. Powers up your immune system.
Imagine that. Now don't put sugar in it. Don't put sugar in your coffee. You're ruining the vitamin C there.
Okay? Okay? Sun, steak, steel, sleep, coffee. All in this book.
If you don't have a coffee, get a coffee. Now, gut. Take care of your gut. Leaky gut.
Leaky immune system. Always come back to that gut. A lot of your immune system. Okay?
We're talking about in your blood. Well, your white blood cells, yeah, that's a big part of your immune system, but it's not the only part of your immune system. Your border guards are immune system. You've got a southern border between your gut and your blood.
Very important, guys. You don't want garbage coming into your blood. You have a northern border between your blood and your brain. It's called the BBB, blood-brain barrier.
Okay? You have the southern border, the northern border, and they're very much connected. And they're made up, your border guards are made up of tiny little cells and bacteria. And the more good guys you have, the more you win.
This is why I talk about probiotic. Everybody and their dog should be on probiotics. I'm sorry, guys. If you eat fermented foods, I love that.
I mean it. I love that. But there's nothing like a broad spectrum probiotic, guys. They're just not.
Certain strains, especially, they do wonderful things, and you get them in such abundance. And they boost up your immune system because they protect the southern border and the northern border. They help get rid of viruses and bacteria that don't belong in your body. They won't allow them into the bloodstream.
They replenish, they renew, they regenerate. Okay? And what a lot of people don't realize is that their immune system is compromised when you have an invasion of the third army, which is yeast, fungus, candida. Your immune system goes after that and is not fighting your bacteria or a virus that your body needs to focus in on.
Okay? And, okay, remember, I love this too, guys. Okay? I love this too.
There's no better antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, antiparasitic on the planet than oil of oregano. I tell people they're going down to Mexico or whatever in the winter, don't leave home without it. Okay? It's like American Express.
Don't leave home without it. Don't leave home without oil of oregano. It is such a powerful antibacterial, antiviral. It's all part of my natural flu shot.
Okay? So let me review very quick. Sun, vitamin D. Eliminate sugar as much as possible.
Get rid of sugar. Sugar puts your white blood cells to sleep. Vitamin D charges them up. Okay?
Steak, vitamin A. Okay? Steel. Get strong.
Move. Tremendous. Okay? Sleep.
Get your sleep. Very important. Prioritize sleep. Because cortisol affects your immune system, guys.
Okay? Coffee, the real vitamin C, your gut, probiotics, oil of oregano. Ever heard of it? Anybody ever tell you about oil of oregano?
Tell the oil of oregano makers. They owe me. I've been preaching that for 40 years. Oil of oregano.
How good it is. You should see the research have been done on oil of oregano and how it kills bacteria and viruses. Amazing. Okay, guys.
That's your natural flu shot. Okay. Questions? Don't be shy.
