TRANSCRIPT OF TODAY'S EPISODE

Announcer:  You're listening to The Doctor Is In Podcast, brought to you by MartinClinic.com. During the episode, the doctors share a lot of information. As awesome as the info may be, it is not intended to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent any disease. It's strictly for informational purposes.

Dr. Martin:  Well, good morning, everyone. And once again, welcome to another live this morning. Nice to have you come on. And as you get your notifications, good morning, good morning, good morning.

Guys, we love you dearly. Okay, I want to do a few studies here this morning. I got several. Some of them we won't spend a lot of time on, but let's start with coffee.

A new one out. Okay. Now, little review of coffee. Okay.

Because people sometimes think I'm joking about coffee. I'm not joking. Talk about a gift that keeps on giving. Coffee.

Listen to this new study. It acts like a GLP-1. Yeah. Well, it shouldn't surprise you because I talked about, and I did this 25, 30 years ago on my radio show.

I talked about the significance of drinking coffee with a meal. You know why I said that? Because it acted just like metformin, the medication. Right?

What do they take metformin for? Diabetes. And coffee, like metformin, lowers your blood sugar. It lowers your insulin response.

Now, what is a GLP? A GLP-1. It's a peptide. And you know all about the craze of the peptide, like osmpoch and wigaby or wigaby or whatever they call it, V.

Okay? Wigoby. I don't know what they call it, and I don't care. Okay?

All I know is there's such popular medications. And of course, the problem is, and they're showing that now with osmpoch, a lot of side effects with that, including blindness. Anywho, not going to talk about osmpoch because I'm talking to you about coffee. New study out shows coffee, because it's a powerful polyphenol, a powerful polyphenol, acts like a GLP-1.

Holy smokes. Aren't you just thrilled, guys? And remember yesterday we talked about visceral fat? Well, this study says that coffee decreases visceral fat.

Man, oh man, the gift that just keeps on giving. I don't know, guys. You know one thing you guys will all admit, if you've followed me for any length of time, and I know many of you have followed me for a lot of years, okay? You have to admit I've been consistent.

Okay? I've been consistent. And in the book Sun, Steak and Steel, I got a whole chapter on coffee. I should write a book just on coffee.

Anywho, it's the real vitamin C. Another study confirming how good it is. And by the way, this study said it acts like a GLP-1. Okay?

Acts like a GLP-1. We already knew it acts like metformin, the medication. You know what the problem is with metformin? Okay?

This is something that I've said for many years, too. The problem with metformin, because a lot of diabetics, I mean, it's the number one, probably the number one drug that's given for diabetics, you know what? It destroys your B12. And you know, they don't know that.

A diabetic doesn't know that. If you destroy B12, because metformin is famous for that, it destroys your B12 in your body. Well, B12 is a nerve vitamin. What problems do diabetics often get?

Diabetic neuropathy. Guys, you have no idea how many patients I treated over the years with diabetic neuropathy. They had no B12. Like, they didn't even have enough for a mouse.

Nobody told them that that was a typical side effect of the medication they were taking for diabetes. Nobody. The pharmacists didn't tell them. Anyway, so of course, I put them on B12 for diabetic retinopathy, because they had virtually none left.

And you need that B12 to protect the myelin sheath. And by the way, guys, this is just a by the way, because people ask almost daily about numbers of B12. And I've always said this, and this is due to clinical experience. Okay?

This is just my clinical experience on blood tests. Now, remember about B12. The blood test for B12 is 100 years old. I wish we'd given a birthday party and, you know, send it off into retirement.

Because its numbers, first of all, is looking at blood B12. B12, what it does in your blood is nothing compared to what it does in your tissue. It has to be at the cellular level. And there is a way of measuring that's better than the normal B12, in my opinion, and that is homocysteine.

I like that test, okay, of homocysteine. But anyway, my clinical experience taught me over the years, looking at probably tens of thousands of B12 results over the years, looking at their blood work. Generally, what I found in B12 is when they were above 800. They needed to be above 800.

Anything below that was not optimized B12. It certainly wasn't getting into your cells where it belongs. Anyway, the point I was trying to make is there's research showing anything under 400. I had a doctor, I get a migraine, say, well, above 400, that's high.

First of all, when you teach B12, it's a water-soluble vitamin. Like you ain't accumulating B12 to make you sick. It's impossibility. Oh, it's over 400.

Well, anything under 400, new research is showing that nerves start getting damaged. Anything under 400 in your B12. There's nerve damage taking place already. Anywho, why am I talking about B12?

Because of metformin. Metformin destroys B12. Tell your diabetic friends they don't know. Nobody's told them.

They absolutely need to be on B12. Optimized B12 is above 800. And those numbers are the same in Canada and the United States. Okay?

Just same because of new research. So, the new research on coffee, wow. You're a tea drinker? I feel sorry for you.

You don't like coffee? Because every time we talk about coffee, there's always people that will say, I don't like coffee. Okay, I feel sorry for you. If someone said, I actually take the bean as a supplement, I really die about that.

Okay? I don't like coffee, but I'll take the bean as a supplement. Okay? Coffee's so good for you.

Anyway, okay? A new study on sugar. Okay? Sugar ain't so sweet, is it?

It changes brain chemistry in just 12 days. In just 12 days. Sugar. Brain chemistry.

One thing we know about sugar, okay, it's very addictive. Especially the especially the new sugar high fructose corn syrup. It's so addictive. It's cheap.

It's made in a lab. It's far from nature, guys. Okay? And it takes the same route as cocaine does in your brain.

And it changes brain chemistry in just 12 days. Can you imagine these poor kids today? They're hooked on sugar. Hooked on sugar.

Changes brain chemistry in 12 days. Let me tell you what helps a kid. Okay? So you grandparents out there, parents out there listening to me, because good luck trying to get them off all sugars, right?

Good luck with that. I'm just saying. Okay? I live in the real world, guys.

Like I always tell my grandchildren. I had grandpa had cookies and ice cream too, you know. Now, in the 1950s, we had about 25 pounds of sugar a year. That's what sugar history tells us.

In the 70s, it was up to 50 pounds a year. And now it's a dump truck load. It's in everything. It's in everything.

Anyway, sugar changes brain chemistry in just 12 days. Parents, grandparents, what do you do? What do you do? Give the kid omega-3 DHA.

Protect the brain. Protect the brain. Okay? Your brain, look at me.

Okay? Look at me. Your brain is made up of fat, not sugar. You're a fat head, or at least you should be.

Alzheimer's, you know what it is? It's a shrinking brain. Sugar shrinks the brain because the brain is feeding on the wrong fuel. Like people think, well, you need sugar in your brain.

No, you need ketones in your brain. You need fat in your brain. The fatter your brain is, the healthier your brain is. And your brain is a hog for good fat.

And what is good fat? Good fat, first of all, is saturated fat. Like butter, like steak, like cream, dairy, good dairy. Okay?

I hate to use the word good dairy because I'm the dairy farmer's best friend is me. I used to say this again on my radio show, you farmers, you owe me money. Send, send checks because I was always promoting the dairy farmer. I didn't want you to drink the milk, but I wanted you to drink the cream.

I wanted you to have the butter. I wanted you to have the cheese. I was a dairy farmer's best friend. Right?

So this is really important, guys. Okay? Fat, saturated fat. It's a satisfied fat.

Don't give your brain the bad oil. That's not good for you. Those omega-6s, the bad oil, those seed oils, those industrial oils, the hateful eight, I call them, they don't belong in your brain. They're not good for your brain.

You want nature, natural fat, found in dairy, found in meat, found in eggs. Found in the animal kingdom. Okay? And you like avocado?

Good. That's good for your brain too. You like coconut? That's good for your brain too.

It's got a healthy fat. But there's nothing that beats that saturated fat from dairy and meat and eggs. Nothing beats that fat. And then the fish oil with the high DHE.

Protect your brain, guys. Protect your brain. Okay? Okay.

What other study did I get? I got lots of them. Okay. People having hard times.

I probably brought to you this before, but it's a new one. On microplastics. You know my statements. You can run, but you can't hide.

I kind of laugh a little bit. Okay? I see these gurus on social media, and that's all right. Guys, you want to show me something?

You want me to see something? You want to send me something? I'll read it. I'll look at it.

I don't try and operate like a lot of people do with their minds closed. I don't like that. I'm always open to learning. So when I see these gurus, well, don't drink out of a plastic bottle.

And guys, I'm not saying to drink out of a plastic bottle. I'm just telling you the way it is. I don't care who you are. You can run, but you can't hide from the microplastics.

They're everywhere. What is my statement? From Mount Everest to the placenta in a baby. Microplastics.

And you know, you can go through your home and make it pristine and there ain't a plastic anything. Yeah, well, that's all right, but you can run, but you can't hide. I'm not saying don't try and diminish it. I'm just telling you the way it is, because you can't get rid of it.

It's everywhere. It's in the water. It's in the soil. It's in the air.

They're micro. They don't dissolve. They're forever. Okay?

Let me unpack this just for a second. Guys, you're always going to have viruses. You're always going to have bacteria. Right?

Every year, it's the flu season. Right? I don't know about where you live, but here, Northern Ontario, we got the memo. It's fall.

We see a lot less sun. What happened? Are the viruses worse in the winter? Well, no.

It's not the viruses. They show up. Oh, you know what? Like it's fall and winter.

Let's show up. No, no. They're always around. It's your immune system.

It's you. It's me. So what do I do? What did I say during COVID?

Oh, the virus. Wear a mask. Hand sanitizers 50 times a day and don't go out and six feet apart. What did I say through the whole thing?

Stop it. Take care of yourself. And it's the same thing with microplastics. You can run, but you can't hide.

So what do you do? Keep your immune system at the top of its game. Start with the gut. Your microbiome.

Do you know that your microbiome knows how to deal with plastics if it's in good shape? Because it won't let that come into your bloodstream. But if you've got leaky gut, and the research too is showing that El-Ruderi. I love El-Ruderi.

I love El-Ramnosis. Okay. It's almost like I know them personally. Hi, El-Ruderi.

A little bacteria, but it's powerful. Anti-plastic. So again, guys, I talk about you. Take care of you.

What's my analogy? You're on a plane. In the event that we lose oxygen, the mass will come out of the ceiling, says the stewardess or the steward. Okay.

Isn't that what they tell you? And then what do they tell you? Well, before you can help someone else, take care of yourself. That's me, guys.

Take care of yourself. You're going to be no good to anybody else unless you take care of your immune system. Okay. You take care of your immune system.

There's going to be microplastics. I'm sorry if you think you're going to be the lone ranger that doesn't get affected by microplastics. You can bury your head in the sand. Well, the sand's got them too.

Don't bury your head in the sand. They're everywhere. It's the planet on you and I live on. Okay.

I had a lady come into my office one time and she thought I was happy for her. And she said, Dr. Martin, I'm moving to Costa Rica and I'm getting away from this planet. I'm going to have my own little place in Costa Rica.

And she thought I'd be happy for her. I said, what are you running from? Oh, she said the environment. Okay.

Guys, this is 15, 20 years ago. Okay. I said, you know what I said to her? I don't care if you go to Costa Rica.

I don't care. Their water got plastic in it too. The air in Costa Rica, they got plastic there too. Yeah.

I said, you can run, but you can't hide. Okay. And she was very upset with me. I put a little pinprick in her balloon.

Like I got my own island there. She thought I was going to say, sucks to be the rest of us. Right? Anyway.

Okay. Take care of yourself, guys. Take care of yourself, guys. When I read a study like that on the microplastics, and I didn't even tell you.

They got 80, people that have a heart attack have 84% more microplastics in their bloodstream than the normal population. It's higher. I don't know. I'm just reading the study.

Take care of yourself and gut, leaky gut, leaky heart. One of the best things you can do to detox, okay, besides your microbiome, besides the broad spectrum probiotic, because that's very important. Keep your liver clean. Why?

Because your liver detoxes. Your liver produces glutathione, the velcro that will attach itself to plastics and take them out of your body. Keep your liver clean. Isn't that amazing?

You go back to food and you keep your liver clean. Because if you eat eggs, meat and cheese, your liver loves that. It keeps it clean. You know what gums up your liver?

Sugar and crappy carbs and high fructose corn syrup. Okay, let me see here. Can I get to another study here? I like this one.

Okay, let me finish with this one. Psychiatry, this is an article. Okay, let me read the headline to you. I love it.

I love it. Psychiatry should be more concerned about the gut than the brain. Wow. Don't you just love that?

Psychiatry, this is the new research, guys. Psychiatry should be more concerned about the gut than it is the brain. I like that. The gut-brain connection.

Your gut and brain very much connect. You've got more serotonin in your gut than you have in your brain. And the problem with SSRIs, because they're uptakers of serotonin, but they actually mess up your gut. Okay, the gut-brain connection.

I got a lot of stuff on that. The gut-brain connection. I remember at the University of Tennessee, I was talking about that last spring. The gut-brain connection.

What we know today compared to what we used to know when it comes to mental health. Okay. Anyway, psychiatry, this is a great article, should be more concerned about the gut than the brain. Love it.

Take care of your gut, guys. Take care of that microbiome. Drink coffee. It's a prebiotic.

It feeds your good bacteria. Coffee! So does steak. So do eggs.

So does good dairy. Okay, guys, tomorrow's Q&A. Not too late. Send your questions in to info at martinclinic.com.

Info at martinclinic.com. It gets to the doctor in. And guess what? Tomorrow is Q&A.

Always, always popular time on Fridays, Q&A Fridays. Often turns into Q&A Mondays, too. Seems to me you've been answering questions all week. And that's all right.

We love that. Ask your questions, guys. Okay? A good student, ask questions. Okay. Talk to you soon.
