Announcer: You're listening to The Doctor Is In Podcast, brought to you by MartinClinic.com. During the episode, the doctors share a lot of information. As awesome as the info may be, it is not intended to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent any disease. It's strictly for informational purposes.
Dr. Martin: Well, good morning, everyone. And once again, welcome to another live this morning. Thank you for coming on. We appreciate you guys very, very much.
And it's Q&A Friday. Much appreciated. Okay, let's get to our questions this morning. Carolyn is asking what possibly could cause sudden onset, 57-year-old male diarrhea occurring, could be a parasite.
I mean, look, there's a lot of things that can cause sudden diarrhea. Okay. I mean, even IBS, irritable bowel syndrome can come where you never had it before. And now the bowel has become irritated.
And now you're getting diarrhea. It could be parasite. It could be the start of an ulcerative colitis might be, you know, I mean, there's so many things that can do it. So you've got to go through Caroline, the, I mean, if it continues, then you need to get that checked out.
Because you got to make sure there's no pathology there in the bowel. Like for example, a cancer could do that. Okay. So I'm just giving you the possibilities.
Okay. And I've seen it even with diverticulitis, for example, or diverticulosis. So a lot of things can cause sudden, where you never had it before diarrhea, you got a bug. It's very possible.
It's that. Okay. Make sure he's taken broad spectrum probiotics. Bone broth is good.
Make up a bone broth or whatever. Very good for that. Okay. Thank you for the question.
Could be a lot of things, Caroline. Clode, when using Himalayan salt. Good idea. It's a good salt.
Makes a great electrolyte drink. A salt in water for life. Does it matter the concentration per serving? Well, yeah, it matters to some extent.
I mean, you know, I always say put a pinch of salt in your water, but a quarter of a teaspoon in 300 millimeters. Yeah, that's a fair concentration, for sure. But I mean, you want to make it clode where you can drink it. Like, you know, it's good for you.
You got no problem doing it. It's just, I mean, how salty do you want it to be? But it does make for a good electrolyte much better than drinking the Gatorade and that garbage. Okay.
Thanks, Clode. Hey, I got four Cs in a row. Caroline, we just answered a question. Clode, now we have Carol.
And then we're going to have Clode. And Carol says, I've had blood work done in June and had elevated liver enzymes. Okay. So probably fatty liver.
Not necessarily, but could have been, Carol. I cleaned up my diet. Yep. Then it was fatty liver.
Okay. I incorporated fasting. I had it repeated in August. They were back to normal.
Now I found out, okay. So yeah, your liver, you had fat build up in there, fatty liver. That's why your liver enzymes went up. You cleaned up your diet.
Very smart. And guess what? The liver empties itself out very rapidly. Six days.
Not for everyone, but it's been done. Six days, all emptied your liver of fat. Okay. That's why the reset is so effective.
When you eat eggs, meat and cheese, you're emptying your liver. It's one of the greatest benefits of the reset. And I used to prove it to patients with their liver enzymes, but she's asking now about creatinine. That is a measurement in kidneys.
Okay. That's gone up and it's still within normal limits, Carol, maybe because you're eating a little bit more protein, but I'm not worried about that. As long as your kidney function is good, the best one to look at is your glomular filtration rate. So GFR.
Okay. GFR. Okay. So what do you want to do with that?
Okay. I'm not even worried about it, Carol, one little bit. And by the way, you're still within normal limits in terms of your number there. Okay.
So is it a concern? No. Okay. How can I reverse that?
No. Don't worry about it. I mean, look, if you're going to get your kidney function test done, look, it's not that I don't look at creatinine, but I don't look at that isolated. I look at it with your glomular filtration rate.
Okay. Because that's a much more important indication of your kidney function. And as long as you're filtering out, and I assume you are, okay. I do drink coffee and water.
Good. That's what I want you to drink. That's the best. You're real vitamin C and water.
So keep it up. Okay. No, I'm not worried at all, Carol. You cleaned up your diet, you cleaned up your liver, you're actually cleaning up your kidneys too.
Believe it or not. You know what destroys kidneys? Sugar. If you don't believe me, ask a diabetic.
Protein does not destroy kidneys. I always get a migraine because people think protein, and that just came from the anti-meat group, and they've been around for a long time. Okay. I learned about that even.
Well, you got protein in your urine. Yeah, but that's because you're a carbaholic and you're eating way too much sugar. You get protein in your urine because of insulin. You get protein in your urine because of your damage to your blood vessels.
Ask a diabetic. I always rest my case with that. What does a diabetic have trouble with? Their eyes?
Circulation. Their heart? Circulation. Their brain?
Circulation. Okay. Kidneys? Circulation.
Blood vessels. Sugar destroys blood vessels. It's toxic. That's why you have an organ dedicated to taking sugar out of your bloodstream.
Your body's smart. Your body is fearfully and wonderfully made. It will do everything it can to take sugar out of your bloodstream. Okay.
There you go. Okay. Thank you very much, Carol Lippre. Now another C, Claudette.
I can't remember an episode where you discussed DMSO. I thought I did last week, maybe the week before. I can't remember. Okay.
What's the question about it? What would your recommendations be? Look, they use that DMSO for interstitial cystitis. You can actually go and Google it.
Okay. That's one of the things where medicine uses that formula. They insert it right into the bladder for interstitial cystitis. The bladder for interstitial cystitis.
Now, I've heard about this for 50 years, guys. Okay. And there seems to be, if you put it on your skin, if you go online and you read about it, listen, I'm a skeptic in a way. Okay.
It's not that I don't read. You guys want me to look at something? I'll do it. But just understand something.
I've been around a long time. And I remember, I'm going back 25, 30 years ago, like DMSO, like a paste. Put it on your skin, put it on your belly. It cures everything from stomach cancer to whatever.
You know what, guys? I didn't buy it. Look, hey, if you had cancer and someone tells you to put DMSO on your skin over the tumor or whatever in the area and you want to do it, hey, I'm not against that at all. I just haven't been convinced by the science of it.
Okay. I just haven't. And again, I had lots of patients try it. Some people really liked it.
Some people didn't. So I like to talk about what I know and my experience. So when you ask me things like this, hey, you want to try it? You want to use it on a skin condition, whatever?
Hey, I've got no problem with it. But like I said, for me, the reason I'm not jumping up and down on it and saying this is the best thing since sliced bread is I just haven't seen the kind of results that, for example, if I go online and go to YouTube or whatever and oh, you know, there's a doctor on there says it cures everything from pimple on your nose and warts on your toes.
Okay. I'm a little skeptical about that, but hey, I don't know. You want to use it? I've got no problem with it.
I just don't have enough experience with great results with it to say, oh, this is, I really, really love it. You guys know this. I love a lot of things. That was Claudette.
Thank you very much. Joni, spend some time talking about hyperthyroid. You talk at a great length about hypo. Well, the reason I do that, Joni, because it's 90 to 10, meaning that anybody that's got problems with their thyroid, it's 90 to 10, hypo, low functioning thyroid.
Okay. Now you have two autoimmune diseases. One of them is low and the other is high. Graves is high.
And with graves, your eyes can be bulging out. You can have a tremor. Your thyroid, think of it, is your gas pedal in your car. Okay.
And if you floor it, you know, you can be very unwell with that. You can very unwell with that. You can get a goiter, right? Which is a huge enlargement of the thyroid gland.
Everything, your heart is racing. It's a terrible condition. And the opposite of that is Hashimoto's, which is an autoimmune thyroid condition where you're into real low functioning thyroid. The vast majority of people that have trouble with their thyroid neither have hyper nor like they don't have graves and they don't have Hashimoto's, but their thyroid's not working properly.
I saw, I'm going to say tens of thousands of cases of that, and I don't think I'd be exaggerating. Low functioning thyroid. And usually with normal, so-called normal blood testing, okay, the thyroid, because you can't isolate the thyroid unless you have autoimmune. Okay.
Now you can pretty well isolate. Like if you've got Hashimoto's or graves, those are very isolated to the thyroid itself. But the vast majority of people, the vast majority of people, when they have trouble with their thyroid, it's hypo, first of all. And it's because the thyroid has got a lot of connections to it, right?
We call it the puppet. We don't call it a puppet for nothing. It has a lot of strings attached. It's attached ladies to your ovaries.
It's attached to, in terms of symptoms, attached to your adrenals. It's attached to your insulin. It's attached to your liver. It's attached to your hypothalamus in the brain.
A lot of strings attached. And that's why I spend so much time on hypo, low functioning thyroid, because that is the vast majority. But if you've got a high and it's racing, usually you have a condition called graves. Okay.
And you need medical help with that, with graves. I work on, like if people are just slightly high functioning thyroid, our thyroid formula is good for low and above normal because it helps to balance it out. It feeds the thyroid the exact nutrients that the thyroid needs to function properly, including selenium.
But that's the difference. And remember with any autoimmune, including graves and Hashimoto's, there's a gut connection, a gut connection. Leaky gut, leaky thyroid. Got to fix the leaky gut too.
Okay. Got to fix the leaky gut. Okay. That was Joanie.
Tam, if someone like you, like me, for example, who is always very careful to eat eggs, meat, and cheese, yep, went off track for an occasion and ate a large piece of cake with ice cream, and then went back to your healthy eating, how long would it take to get your insulin and organs back to a pre-cake?
Tam, I love it. It's a good question. Now look at me guys. Okay.
Are you looking? Okay. What do I do? I always give you a plan to succeed, not to fail.
Okay. I give you a plan to succeed, not to fail. So what does that mean? If it's your birthday, listen out there, if it's your birthday, and you want to have a piece of cake, have a piece of cake, okay, here's me.
I want to give you a plan to succeed, not to fail. Now there's some of you out there. I admire you. I do.
You never, ever, ever cheat, ever. I admire that. But you're in a very small minority. 99% are in the other camp.
You're in the 1% of people. And listen, I admire that. But the memo I tried to send out to my patients, here's the memo. I want this to be a lifestyle change.
I want you to understand that you have a bad relationship with carbohydrates. Your body doesn't need them. You like them. And I want you and I want you to understand that we have a plan and a plan to succeed.
Okay. And so if you get off your plan for a meal or whatever, like don't go shoot yourself. Get back on track. It only takes a short period of time and your body is giving you high fives again.
And a lot of people realize this. Okay. This is what the reset does for a lot of people. I heard this tens of thousands of times.
You know what, Doc? I did the reset and then I cheated. I had a piece of cake. You know what I found out?
I don't do well with that. I don't feel good when I eat that. So I want you to succeed. I've seen so many people, they start a diet and then they mess up and they feel so bad about it that they quit.
I'm not doing it anymore. Okay. I want people, no, just get back on track. Just get back to eating good.
And I tell my grandchildren, grandpa had cookies and ice cream too, you know, but you know what? I don't eat that stuff. And I was telling someone last night at our seminar, I married an Italian girl. If you told me you can never ever, ever have any pasta again, guys, I have this much pasta and I live on my wife makes the sauce and the meat.
I live on the sauce and the meat. I live on that. If I'm going to have that, that's what I'm having. I don't live on the new.
Right. So it becomes lifestyle. I want you guys to get the memo about lifestyle. And it's a plan to succeed.
And I've had patients eating low carb, not no carb, but low carb for 25, 30, 35 years. I mean it. Doc, I don't even remember them. They see me or whatever, or they send me a note somehow.
You know what? You talked me into a low carb eating 25 years ago. Thank you very much. I've been sticking to it because I want you to give your insulin a rest.
That's what I really want. You want to preserve that pancreas of yours. You want to keep your liver healthy. You want to keep your kidneys healthy.
You want to keep your brain healthy. Well, do everything again. You got to eat anyways and eat the right things, guys. That's what I teach.
I want you to succeed. I never want people to look at themselves as failures. And that's what I do. That's what I preach.
And so thanks for the question. And that was Tam. You get right back on track very quickly. Your body is unreal how it comes right back.
So if you have a piece of cake, Tam, don't have it every day. It's your birthday. Have it. Marine, are you going to have a piece of cake tomorrow?
Go for it. You hear me? Put some ice cream on it too if you want. I don't care.
Just don't live on it. There you go. Claire, reading through the metabolic reset. Avocado, coconut oil are the only oils listed for the reset.
They're heavy fat. Okay. And Claire's asking a good question. Done?
Damn right. You're going to try and catch me on something, aren't you? Why don't you have olive oil in there? Well, I do.
Bacon. Okay. Claire, bacon, olive oil. They have the same oil.
Now you can use olive oil too. Okay? You can't. You know, that I forget maybe.
Listen, olive oil is good for you. Okay? It is. It's a good oil.
You want to use olive oil, use olive oil. You want to use coconut oil, use coconut oil. You want to use avocado, it's a good oil. It is.
You can cook with it. Okay? Some people say, well, you can't cook with olive oil. I don't buy that.
Okay? I don't buy that. Olive oil is a good oil. It really is.
Okay? And so, did I forget about it? Maybe. But it's not that I don't like it.
Okay? You want to use it, use olive oil. Great. I like butter better than olive oil.
I like bacon better than olive oil. But I do like olive oil. Okay? I do like it.
Okay? There you go. And let's see, I think I'm going to get through with this today. Why has the multi-nutrient been taken off the site permanently?
You know why? It's a good question. We originally called it blood boost. Okay?
And I use that in my office like you have no idea. How many times I gave that to my patients. Okay? We're just having an enormous amount of difficulty.
Part of it is Health Canada. Okay? They hate formulas with a passion. Okay?
And the manufacturing of that is never easy in the first place. We never allow any changes to it because they want to sometimes use a different ingredients in it in terms of quality. We just don't do it. Will it come back?
We're trying to work with the government to allow us to use it again. So I'm not going to say no, but we took it off the site because we just couldn't get it. Me, without compromising and I wouldn't do it because I know what works and I know what doesn't work. So thanks for the question, but that's the answer.
Okay? Deb, her husband has tinnitus ringing in the ear. Okay? Any ideas it can help?
Well, the first thing I always said with tinnitus, okay? Plantar fasciitis, itis, whenever you see an itis, Deb, good possibility it's insulin that's causing. Insulin is a funny thing because I always said like insulin can affect you downstream. What do I mean by that?
I used to have a chart on my wall, Deb, in my office. And I said, these are indicators. You know, like when you get a light that goes on in your car, check the engine light, could be a lot of things, right? Well, when your body, okay, tinnitus, fasciitis, a lot of times that's downstream effect of insulin resistant.
So for tinnitus, it's not always the case, but often the case, lower your insulin, get off the carbs, get off the sugars. And a lot of times tinnitus got a lot better. Okay? I used to give for tinnitus in my office B12, but they usually were low.
I gave them B12, usually about 5,000 micrograms a day in a combination with pine bark extract. Why? Because pine bark elevates nitric oxide, opens up the blood vessels, the inner ear, and sometimes it's there. And the tinnitus in there can be from that.
So I used a combination of B12 and pine bark, Navitor. And a lot of people got good results with that, but not everybody. Okay? Not everybody.
And so check those things out. Okay? Look at skin tags, for example. What is that a sign of?
Oh, downstream insulin. No hair on your toes. Insulin. Okay?
So difference on the skin, itis, tinnitus can be signs of, like even plantar fasciitis. You have no idea how many patients. I said, well, cut out the sugar. What?
What's that got to do with my feet? I said, try it. And then they'd come back for another. Oh, my plantar fasciitis is gone.
Yeah. Amazing. Not always, but it's worth checking out, isn't it? Thanks, Deb.
Carmel, how does furosemide help with venous dermatitis? I have no idea. I'm trying to think of what is furosemide. Let me get back to you on that, Carmel.
I know what venous dermatitis is. I think we talked about that last week. Okay? And what is it?
Furosemide. Anybody got any answers for that? I'm pulling out my senior card. Okay?
I can't remember. I got to look it up. Okay? I'll answer it on Monday, but I think I got the rest of it.
I think I answered everything. Could it be that I got everything done already? Yeah. Okay.
So guys, thanks for sending in the questions. We love you dearly and sincerely. Okay? And I mean it.
You guys are unreal. Okay? You guys are unreal. So we got a lot of studies we're going to look at next week.
Good. But don't be shy on asking questions, guys. Okay? We really appreciate it.
I answered questions pretty well all week. I think every one of my sessions this week was all about people asking questions and I happened to see it or they were sent to me and I answered it before Q&A. Okay, guys, thanks again for being the greatest audience in the world. This week we went over 3 million downloads on the Dr.
Is In podcast. Guys, that is amazing. Amazing numbers. Okay.
Love you guys. Talk to you soon.
