    For two reasons.

    It’s hard to know where you want to go if you don’t know where you’re at right now.


    If you’re looking at a map and see where you need to go, then obviously you have to also know where you are.


    That’s the only way you can plot a course to your destination.


    The second reason you need to know where you’re at right now is…


    You have to know how big is the gap between your starting point and destination.


    What do I mean by that?


    Based on where you’re at right now…


    How far are you from your destination?


    Is it a short distance or is it far?


    The gap between where you’re at now to where you want to be is the OBSTACLE that needs to be overcome.


    This is important.


    If you’re far off from where you want to be…


    Then you know from the start the journey will take a little longer.  That way you won’t get discouraged when you don’t get to your destination immediately.
