“Why do some people bloat and some don't?”

Listen to the answer0:00 / 1:19

Dr. Martin, in his own words, from The Doctor Is In. Episode 1855, 1:19.

A listener asked, and Dr. Martin answered on episode 1855:

Good question, Marissa. Very good question. Most times, okay, almost invariably, if you bloat, and you do apparently, right, Marissa? She bloats quite a bit. You have a condition almost invariably called SIFO. S-I-F-O. It used to be called SIBO. Well, it still is, but it really shouldn't be SIBO. It should be SIFO. S-I-F-O. Small intestine fungal overgrowth. I can tell you, almost guaranteed, even without, Marissa, hold on, yep, Marissa, even without knowing you personally, if you were in my office, I guarantee I would have found that you were full of candida, yeast, in the small intestine. Fungal overgrowth might have been going on for years. Here's what you do. Broad spectrum probiotics.
