TRANSCRIPT OF TODAY'S EPISODE
Announcer: You're listening to The Doctor Is In Podcast, brought to you by MartinClinic.com. During the episode, the doctors share a lot of information. As awesome as the info may be, it is not intended to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent any disease. It's strictly for informational purposes.
Dr. Martin: Well, good morning everyone. Once again, welcome to another live this morning. Hope you're having a great start to your day, and we certainly are. Some of you were asking, I noticed that over the weekend that some of you were asking, did Dr. Martin answer the question Friday? Well, I didn't get tall of them. Okay, so this is from Laura. I think. Laura, you had asked me a question earlier, if I'm not mistaken. Yeah, you asked about this liver test. Okay, but you asked about two more questions. You had two other today that would've been last week. I talked about ibuprofen and Advil. One in the same. No, I was talking more about the other day just because there was not acetaminophen, but ibuprofen. Two main problems. Just an article I've read on the kidneys causing kidneys problem could lead to renal failure and stomach ibuprofen over a period of time destroys the mucus layer of your stomach, which is not good. Believe you me, you can get a lot of issues on that.
So Laura's asking what you recommend. Look, Tylenol's got a lot of problems too. Okay? And you know how, because it's over the counter and Tylenol children has been linked to destroying the microbiome in kids. I've read links to autism and problems down the road with asthma and other things. All I'm saying is, okay, you've got an over the counter. One, doesn't mean it's safe. There's a lot of side effects, a lot of people hospitalized. People don't realize for taking over the counter like Advil or Tylenol. And I know people that take a Tylenol or Advil to sleep every night. You have no idea how dangerous that is. And I am very, very sympathetic with people when they have pain. But these medications are meant to be taken very short period of time to snip the wire of pain. And otherwise, you just have to understand there's many, many side effects.
And one thing for sure, if you're on Advil or Tylenol or whatever of those NSAIDs or non NSAIDs, you got to be on probiotics because probiotics will help you to mitigate the side effects of them and especially the damaging effect they have on the microbiome. Okay? And then she's asking, Laura's asking about Symbicort, which is a combination of a steroid for the lungs and people for asthma to control that. Again, Symbicort, I know one thing over the years that I saw people that were taking a puffer, like Symbicort or whatever, they usually had a yeast or a thrush in their mouth can get down into the esophagus. Yeast, because what happens when you take a steroid like that, you're killing again your friendly bacteria, and that needs to be replaced. And the other thing that I found often can lead over the years to osteoporosis and low levels of B12, low levels of vitamin D. Again, you have to stay on top of these things. Okay, Laura, thank you for the questions.
Jennifer is asking about edema. Well, Jennifer, it's for a friend she says. Look, edema can be a lot of things. Why is it there? And so when you just say edema, it could be like whenever I saw edema, I mean, first thing you rule out, do you have congestive heart failure, kidney problems, liver problems? Those are major problems that can lead to edema. I mean, you can have edema in hot weather. You can have edema when you're retaining too much salt. You can get edema from venous insufficiency, meaning that the blood flowing back up to your heart, you got trouble with that. That can lead to edema. So the key is, Jennifer, is to find out why you have edema. Why, of course, you've got to sort of eliminate other things.
Let me see, somebody else was asking about edema. I think, Fran, what would be the best supplement to help with swollen ankles? Edema. How many would one take? Well, Fran, like I said, let's First of all, why do you have it? If it's venous insufficiency often is the best, in my opinion, is Navitol because of elevating nitric oxide, that opens up blood vessels. Very, very good for microcirculation. So that's the supplement that I would recommend taking two a day, which would give you about 700 milligrams of pine bark extract. I mean, there's other things like curcumin is good and quercetin is good, but my favorite for that would be Navitol. Okay, let me see. Let's get back to, so that was edema, okay.
Sherry, okay, "starting a low dose Crestor." Sherry, if there's one medication I can't handle, it's a statin drug. Anywho, if you're taking a low dose, Crestor, be very careful. Lots of side effects. And statin drugs trigger dementia. She says, I understand that, or I've read that. Well, statin drugs work, guys, okay? They work. They don't work when it comes to heart disease, but they certainly work in lowering your cholesterol. So if you want to lower your cholesterol, statin drugs work. They do it every time. Why do you want to lower your cholesterol? That's what I always ask people. Why? Well, cholesterol is at the root of heart disease. I don't think so. If it was, we would've cured it by now because statin drugs are the number one selling. Crestor, Lipitor, Zocor, you name the "or" they are statin drugs. I'm not big on them. Okay, Sherry. But if you are taking it, then you need to protect your brain high DHA, for sure. I do the combination of Navitol and high DHA.
Okay, Cindy, "what does Dr. Martin think of NAD supplements?" Well they're hot. Okay, I always explain to you, I don't think I ever go through a Friday and if we head to Monday for Monday, questions that I don't answer a question, not necessarily on NAD, but anything that's hot on the internet, on social media. I always used to say when I was in the radio business, this product is getting their time under the sun, meaning that it was hot, it was on the hit parade, and then they would fall off. Okay? I mean, listen guys, I've been around for a long time. I did radio for years, 20 years over 20 years, radio show. And people ask me every week about products and they get hot and everybody's talking about 'em. And NED is supposed to be tremendous anti-aging, it cures everything from pimples on your nose to warts on your toes. No, it don't, okay? And I don't know, you have to understand, again, this is my overarching principle when it comes to anything hot off the presses, okay? I compare it. It doesn't mean I dismiss it, I compare it. Here's what I know works. Okay?
So NAD is supposed to be tremendous anti-aging works at the mitochondria level, part of the Creb cycle, yada, yada, yada, okay? Okay. And I say to people, ordinarily, prove that to me how good it is. Like for me anything anti-aging, I'm going to compare it to pine bark extract, which I've been working with for well over 30 years, going on 40 years. I've seen the research, I've seen the clinical research, and I've seen the clinical results tens of thousands of times when it comes to anti-aging. When comes to your mitochondria, even for mitochondria, anything mitochondria health. I like coQ10 better. Eat your steak. If you need a supplement, you take ubiquinol. I've seen the research on that and I've seen clinical studies and I've seen clinical results with people. And so you have to understand that when you ask me about something new, I'm not dismissing it. I'm just saying I have to put it up against what I know. So I'm very opinionated. I don't think you would like me if I wasn't opinionated. Why have a show if you're not opinionated? Especially if you're doing solo like me. I just got to give you what I know. I got to give you what I see. And I read about NED. I know what it is. I don't know. Maybe it's good, but I know what's really good and works. I'm very biased, guys. But I've got results. You gotta get results. That's the way I operate. Okay? Thank you for the question. That was Cindy.
Gerdy. "Why do floaters appear?" Floaters, Gerdy, I don't care what it is with your eyes. Floaters. Cataracts, diabetic retinopathy. I don't care what it is. I said this a million times and I'll say it again. If you got trouble with floaters, you got trouble with circulation. It's microcirculation. Your eyes depend on circulation. I was overwhelmed the very first time, not that I saw a picture of the eye. I have my old atlas here, but the very first time, it wasn't even on the atlas because you can look at it. So what you see here, okay, here's a picture of the eye, okay? And when you look into the eye and you look back here, you know what you see in the back of the eye? Blood supply, okay? All the blood vessels. The first time I ever looked in someone's eye, we did it in school. We were looking at each other's students, okay? I remember looking in there and I was fascinated by the blood supply behind the eye.
Now you can't see it until you take out a scope and look at it. And I'll never forget it. The very first time I saw it, I was living in Toronto and all I could think of was highway. The Don Valley parking lot, that's what we used to call it. Highway 401, highway 403, all those highways that are in Toronto, and now there's more of them. But when I was in school, all I can think of was when I looked into the eye was blood supply. That is so key for the eye. Micro circulation. Whenever you have trouble in the eye, the first thing, the rule of thumb should be check, circulation. Dry eyes, circulation and DHA, your eyes. So there's an oil lubrication that lubricates the blood vessels. I'm a big guy on combining things for your eyes. DHA, because DHA does a lot of things, but it's very good for microcirculation because it lubricates the blood vessels, plus it replaces the fat, the healthy fat in your eyes, a lot of fat in your eyes, a lot of cholesterol in your eyeballs. You need that.
And then I love Navitol because Navitol again opens up those blood vessels, nitric oxide, and then coats the blood vessels. It's an antioxidant. Do you know what I mean by that? So that's me Gerdy. Okay? I'm big on that. And you're asking a good question. Why do floaters appear? I have to fix the retina through surgery after being on the EMC? Well, it ain't the EMC eggs, meat, and cheese that caused that. I can guarantee you a million percent. You have trouble Gerty. These things don't come overnight. Takes years and years for these things to occur. You had trouble. I guarantee it with microcirculation back there. The thing that I emphasize the most when it comes to eyes to make a point, sugar is so destructive. So I don't know. Gerty, I can tell you that eggs, meat and cheese are not destructive to your eyes. They help to cure the eyeball because you're giving it the nutrient.
What destroys blood vessels is sugar. Sugar destroys blood vessels. I always say I can prove it to you. Ask a diabetic, why does a diabetic have so much trouble with their eyes from glaucoma to a diabetic retinopathy to cataract? Why do diabetics 50% more likely to have eye disease? Sugar left unattended. So it's never an egg, it's never meat, it's never dairy that destroys your eyes. It just never is. When it comes to food, it's sugar 100%. It's sugar. It's so destructive. And the first thing that sugar destroys is capillaries. Those little attachments between your arteries and your veins. And that's why I tell people, get off the stinking sugar. Okay, now Gerty, what else are you asking there? I get on little diatribes. Okay, taking Navitol and DHA regular for what can be done to improve the scar tissue, keep doing it, keep doing it. Rome wasn't built in a day. I like curcumin too. I'm big on curcumin because it's very anti-inflammatory. Another powerful antioxidant. So I like that. But nothing better for your eyes, Gerty than what you're already doing. There's just nothing better, not in the natural rem. Okay, thank you very much.
"I'm due for a pulmonary test in August." Okay? "What can I do to prepare? I've had a bad flu all winter. Can't get clear. I've coughed up so much. I'm thinking I've done some damage to my lungs. I'm now wheezing. Short of breath." Well I can shine some light on that you picked up in your lungs, I guarantee Carmel, you got that mucus and you now have a fungus in your lung. If it has stayed for a long time now and you can't get rid of it, I can tell you, you got a yeast, get off sugar. You have fungus may be coming from your sinuses going down in and where you've got a postnasal drip and you don't even know it. And a lot of times that coughing. You sure you haven't been exposed to mold because you can get mold in your lungs. Mold is a first cousin of yeast. They're cousins. They're very similar. Don't feed the bears, don't give them any sugar for lungs. I love quercetin for lungs. Navitol again, for lungs. I would do the vitamin D hammer. Do the hammer like 50,000 IUs. Don't say I said to do it. 50,000 IUs a day for three days, do the hammer. Okay? That's how I would prepare Carmel for the pulmonary test in August, my word.
Nina, "can Dr. Martin verify taking zinc on a regular basis is a risk for Alzheimer's?" What? Why? I'm a why guy. I have never read that. Did someone put that up on Facebook or on social media that taking zinc on a regular basis is a risk for Alzheimer's. Why would that be? When you eat steak, you get zinc. Zinc is found in the animal kingdom, not much in the plant kingdom. Why is it bad for you? It's not. Zinc is very, very good for your immune system. Now you don't hear me talking too much about supplementing with zinc, okay? Although there's good research for viral zinc is good for the immune system, but I like people to eat their zinc. It's like vitamin A, you can take it, but unless you're very short, I would rather you eat certain vitamins. I would rather you eat zinc, than take a supplement. Although I've given supplements of zinc. Plus, if you're taking our multi nutrient, ooh, I hope it's back in stock soon. It's such a finicky, it's not easy to make. It's not easy to get all the ingredients that we insist on be in that product and the right ingredients a hundred percent.
Anyway, there's zinc in there and it's a chelated zinc. But I do that for a reason because usually people that I put on the multi nutrient are devoid, they're not doing well, they don't feel good. They may be anemic and they may have a very low immune system and they're fighting chronic fatigue and they're exhausted and their immune system isn't up to snuff. So we try and help them out with the multi nutrient. And that's got zinc in it, but I've never heard of that, that it's related to Alzheimer's. Can you send me at info@martinclinic, send me what you read there. I'm dismissing it because I've never heard of it before. Plus it don't make any sense. Why would zinc be linked to Alzheimer's? It don't make any sense to me. But if you've got something for me, Nina, send it to me. Okay?
Okay, Bonnie. Now you're going to go down a little trail. Bonnie, you're going to get me going. Bonnie says, "can you ask Dr. Martin about the NMR lipoprofile tests, what results he wants to see? And natural practitioner NP's believe it's a gold standard." You see my face, Bonnie? I don't agree with it. I get it. Look, there's a lot of stuff. Okay? There's two schools. There's a big school, 99% of all the doctors are in it, and a lot of naturopaths too. Natural practitioners, lots of them are in this too. They're in the cholesterol count and that there is such a thing as cholesterol linked to heart disease, okay? High cholesterol or the lipoproteins that you can test it. And they get into weeds, in my opinion. Okay? They're in the weeds. They still can't phantom that cholesterol is not the boogeyman. They can't phantom it. And it's been ingrained in them and drilled into their psyche that cholesterol is a boogeyman. And some of them are coming off of that a little bit, but they're saying, yeah, but if you've got lipoprotein ab, you got this little particle. Well, that's giving us an indication that heart disease.
There's no, in my opinion, my opinion, again, you're asking my opinion, I don't buy it. I want your cholesterol to be high. I want your triglycerides to be low. That's what I look for. I'm sorry. Look it, I am going to say I read everything. You send me something. I am always reading. I told somebody the other day, I don't know how many hours a day I spend reading reports, research articles. I keep my nose in it. And even if it's something I dismiss, like cholesterol, I still read it. And I know there's two schools and the big school with 99% of all doctors and nurses and practitioners or whatever, they still believe cholesterol is at the root of heart disease. I'm in the school and it's a small school, but it is growing that don't believe that. Blaming cholesterol for heart disease is like blaming the firemen because they're at a fire. They're not the bad guy. Of course, cholesterol is in your blood vessels. Where do you think cholesterol belongs? It belongs in your blood vessels. Why? Well, they're Amazon trucks. They're FedEx trucks. They're delivering, they're delivering your hormones. You can't live without cholesterol.
And I know it's hard to change the psyche of people. They've been so ingrained in medical school, in nursing, in all of the healthcare field. I was trained even back in the seventies on cholesterol. That was before they even invented statin drugs. But we had guys around like Dr. Ansel Keys saying cholesterol was at the root of heart disease. I didn't buy it. All I can think of is cholesterol. How can you live without it? Your brain is made up of cholesterol. Your eyeballs got cholesterol. Every cell in your body's got cholesterol. Why is that bad? Well, if it's LDL, why did they pick on LDL? Well, what year was it? 87 or 88? They got statin drugs and they could lower LDL. So guess why they picked on LDL. Has it saved anybody's life? It's been the biggest flop ever in terms of results. It works. You can prove it. It lowers your cholesterol. Hey, doc, people used to come into my office. Hey doc, I lowered my cholesterol and I would say, goody goody gum drops. What is that going to do for you?
And now they're inventing new tests for cholesterol. They're getting into the weeds. I call this out four or five years ago. I said, you're getting into the weeds to confuse people, to keep people on statin drugs. That's what you're doing. You're smart when it comes to marketing. Nobody better than the pharmaceutical companies. They know how to market like no one else. And they know how to get after doctors big time. They go in and sponsor medical schools. They sponsor their own research. And I'm not saying they don't do good things. I'm not saying that, but they've missed the mark on cholesterol, in my humble opinion. I can't come off of it, Bonnie. I just can't because it ain't going to save your life if you lower your cholesterol. As a matter of fact, I think it will kill you earlier. I really do. I don't see cholesterol as being bad. The whole premise to me is wrong. So when you get these little particles and you start testing them and say, oh, that's a big thing. That's the gold standard, meh. To me, it's just getting into the weeds to confuse people and to keep doctors prescribing statin drugs. That's me. I don't buy it.
