TRANSCRIPT OF TODAY'S EPISODE

Announcer:  You're listening to The Doctor Is In Podcast, brought to you by MartinClinic.com. During the episode, the doctors share a lot of information. As awesome as the info may be, it is not intended to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent any disease. It's strictly for informational purposes.

Dr. Martin:  Well good morning everyone, and once again, welcome to another live this morning. Hope you're having a great start to your day, and we appreciate you coming on this morning. As you can see, I am on the road, but we're still doing our show and it's Q and A Monday. So we didn't get to all the questions on Friday, which is pretty common. I hope you had your vitamin C. Okay, I'm enjoying that. Okay, so let's get to the questions. I might make this a little shorter depending how long it takes for me to get through the ones that we didn't answer on Friday.

Angie is asking the question, "why do my glucose levels drop during the night," when she's sleeping? Well, look, I mean that can be, are you a diabetic, Angie? Because often happens with diabetes. I don't think you are because you eat strictly keto, very disciplined. Either you do intermittent fasting, 16 hours, fasting, five days a week, you put on a glucose monitor, but you are being affected by it because you said it wakes me up when your blood sugars drop and I'm restless and I get shaky. That is hypoglycemia. So your blood sugar is dropping. I would suggest to you a couple of things. You're one of the rare people that might have to have a snack, a protein snack before going to bed. I usually don't recommend that because I want you to rest and digest. But if your blood sugars are fluctuating that much and they really dipped down in the middle of the night, that could be possibly to your stress levels from cortisol and that's a possibility.

But generally, I would say your hypoglycemic, Angie, you're the type that needs to, you're doing your 16 hour fasting, but you may have to do a protein snack, piece of cheese or whatever before going to bed. You got to try it, see how you feel with it because you're showing signs of hypoglycemia. Hypoglycemia, again, I don't know what your stress levels are. That may be waking you up at night and not so much your blood sugar, even though you're saying that your blood sugar goes down to three, that's low. But anyway, what's doing it could be cortisol. I've seen it happen.

Okay, Andrea, "my 22-year-old son is tired. He commutes two hours to work. What would be something we check for symptoms of blood work?" Well look, do the routine blood work. You know the testing that I love. I want his A1C, get his B12, get his vitamin D. All these things can have a major effect on his energy. Get the triglycerides, the HDL and the ratio. Look at that. I don't think he'd be low in iron, but you could check his ferritin levels. But I'm big on B12, vitamin D. Get that all checked out. I have a feeling that his cortisol is very high, especially if he's commuting during the day, two hours, stress, hard work, that kind of thing can exhaust him. But those are the testing, Andrea, that I would do.

Arlene, "I have a couple of questions regarding potassium." Your potassium is at 5.4. That is a little bit high. I never got alarmed until I saw a 6 in potassium, but Arlene, listen, if your potassium levels are going up, that's usually a kidney problem. So that can be a sign of kidney stress. I always talk about kidneys in terms of until someone actually has kidney disease, they usually start with kidney stress and they might have protein in the urine and their kidney function tests are not right up to snuff. That's what I look for. That's stress on the kidneys. So when potassium levels are a little bit, yours are not extremely high, but they're a little bit elevated. I like them around no higher than 5.2. You're at 5.4. They're under stress. Two things with kidneys. Big, big, big. One, water. Make sure, got to drink enough water and two, cut out the sugar. The sugar, nothing worse for kidneys than that. Okay? So that's potassium.

And someone is asking about her husband has a strong odor, okay? He is a heavy drinker and smokes drugs. There's your answer, there's your answer. Because it literally, if they're a heavy drinker coming out their pores, and I'm going to tell you something, his liver with that strong odor, his liver is not functioning properly and it's just a matter of time before that liver shuts down, just a matter of time. So what can I tell you? You better pray that he gets the memo and turns his life around because that is a sign that liver is really starting in signs of, because when that order comes up. Look, I mean if you're a heavy smoker, it comes out your pores. But the other thing is that liver, the liver is your detox organ. Primary number one, kidneys number two, but primary is number one and he needs to get the memo. Thanks for the question. We appreciate it.

Tina, okay Tina has been diagnosed with polycystic kidneys. I thought I talked about that the other day. She has been told that hereditary, okay, you might have some weakness there. Same way that diabetes runs in Dr. Martin's family. Can the low carb diet help me with prevention? Yes, it can. Biggest thing is not so much low carb as no sugar, Tina, kidneys, sugar and yeah, I'm a low carb guy. You know that. I'm not a no carb guy, but I'm a low carb guy and I love the animal kingdom. And I know with polycystic, you don't want to go online and start reading about polycystic. They'll tell you cut back on the protein. They mix up protein in the urine with eating protein. It's eating sugar gives you protein in the urine because it stresses out the kidneys because of what it does to micro circulation. So I'm big on that and kidney function water, lay off the sugars, okay? Okay, and she does that. She said, I suspect that Dr. Martin's going to give me his protocol and you knew I already knew Tina what it was. You got it.

Okay, Sandra, "to take on a daily basis, is olive oil or MCT oil better for me?" Look, I got to tell you, olive oil in my opinion is better for you. Okay? MCT oil, that's a medium chain fatty acid. A lot of people get bothered by that. It bothers their digestive track with that oil. I'm not against it. It's a good oil, but what is a better oil is olive oil. Olive oil is good for you. So is bacon because it's got the same oleic acid, olive oil. I love olive oil. Very good for you. Good for your skin. Good Internally, good externally. Okay, thanks Sandra.

Caroline, "is it a good idea to take an iodine supplement, and is there a test to know if we get adequate amounts?" There is actually a skin test that I used to do in my office. Doesn't take long. Put a couple of drops of iodine on your wrist and just see how fast your body absorbs that. Okay? Because sort of an eyeball test you can do. But I'll tell you something with me. I'm not a strictly an iodine guy. I'm not. When you want a good functioning thyroid, because that's what people think of when they think of iodine, they think of the thyroid. Rightly so by the way. The problem is, in our society, one of the things that blocks iodine. Well, first of all, it's not in the soil like it used to be. Second of all, the processing of flour with bromide, it blocks iodine. I think that's one of the biggest reasons that most people have a poor functioning thyroid. Even though it might not be diseased, it's not functioning properly.

But I'm going to tell you something. Here's a little tip. Your thyroid needs selenium. Your thyroid needs zinc. And the reason, one of the biggest reasons that thyroid function is really gone in the tank is because people don't eat enough steak. They don't eat enough eggs, they don't eat enough good dairy like butter and cheese. Why? Because that's got iodine in it and that's got selenium in it and that's got zinc in it. And even your thyroid needs vitamin D properly. So iodine, I used to do a test for it in the office, but you don't need to do a test. If you are suspicious, then take our thyroid formula. Okay? That was Caroline.

Chaz, "you state," oh, I think you're going to come after me, Chaz. The way the question is. "You state that plastics are unavoidable." True. They're unavoidable. I don't care where you go. I don't care if you go to the top of Mount Everest or you hide in Costa Rica, it don't matter. They're unavoidable. Okay? "I take it wearing Invisalign." I think that's for your mouth, right? Or part of that category, "are plastic considered free radicals?" Well look, Chaz, if you need to wear something on your mouth, here's the key, okay? Here's the key. The key is not plastics. The key is you. The key is not xenoestrogens, the key is you. Okay? So look, you don't want to drink out of a plastic cup or you don't want to get rid of your Invisalign, your mouth guard or whatever. I don't tell people to do that.

Here's what I tell people to do. Take care of you. Take care of your immune system, take care of your liver because if you have a good functioning liver, it's called you win. You win. Why? Because your liver and your kidneys, but liver number one is your detox. It produces glutathione. Glutathione is like Velcro and it will attach to your plastics, it will attach to the xenoestrogens. It will help you to get rid of them. So get your body in a highly tuned, lean, mean fighting machine. I always emphasize that. I emphasize you. I emphasize your immune system because you're not going to avoid the environment. You're not going to be able to avoid it. You're not leaving the planet, or at least I hope you're not, not right now. And it's up to you to keep your body.

And if you keep your liver, and the number one thing to keep your liver clean is to detoxify your liver. How do you do that? Eggs, meat, cheese and lay off the sugars and lay off the crappy carbs and lay off the sugar molecules like bread, pasta and cereals and things that are just sugar molecules holding hands. Why? Because that gums up your liver, it fattens up the liver, and then you get a double whammo because toxins love fat. Toxins love fat. So keep your liver empty and six days you can empty your liver when you eat eggs, meat and cheese. You hear me? Keep your immune system. It's part of your immune system is your liver and then your kidneys, and we talked about kidneys. Your body will detox itself guys. That's how your body gets rid of things. Your lungs too, of course, and your skin too, but that's not the key. The key is that liver. Okay, get the memo.

So yeah, you're right, Chaz. Plastics are unavoidable. You can't get away from it and we're not going to close the world down to try and get rid of stuff. It's not going to happen. Okay? We can do everything in the world here in North America and then China is not doing it. Well, what are you going to do with that? You got to live on the planet, so do everything you can. It's like a virus or bacteria guys. Whenever there's a pandemic and whenever they're talking to you about the flu or whatever, do you think you're going to avoid viruses? Do you think you're going to avoid bacteria? Where are you going to go and live? On the moon? You can't avoid it. So what do you do? Take care of you. Take care of you. Fire on all cylinders, and the best way to do that is eat the right foods and keep your vitamin D levels high because then your immune system works even better. Okay? So that's me. "Are plastics considered free radicals?" I mean they're not free radicals, but they can cause free radical damage. They're not considered free radicals, but they can cause free radical damage. You know what I mean? Free radicals are created on the inside of your body at the cellular level. Okay, Chaz, thank you.

Carol. "Just wondering what Dr. Martin's opinion on using Ivermectin or Fenben for a parasite cleanse?" I'm not against it. Can you get it? It's not easy to get. Doctors don't like to give it. I can't get over it. Pharmaceuticals because there's no money in it. It was amazing that they have knocked down Ivermectin or whatever, but if you want to do a parasite cleanse and get ivermectin, if you can get it, good for you. I got no problem with that. I like my own parasite cleanse, which is probiotics and oil of oregano. Probiotics. Our probiotics are meant to go after parasites and candida fungus, yeast. You use that along with oil of oregano and there ain't a parasite in the world that can survive that if you go after them. Okay, thank you very, very much. Carol.

This is Anna. "Is there anything you can do to bring cartilage back?" And this is the last question, by the way. Cartilage, look, everything in your body regenerates, okay? Everything does, but as you get older, but again, what you can control is your diet. And when you eat the right foods and you have your mitochondria at the cellular level are firing on all cylinders because you're eating the right fuel, your body has an amazing capacity to regenerate itself. Okay, cartilage. Yeah, I've seen it. The best, like a supplement for cartilage would be bone broth. But to the extent, like when you're my age, what are you regenerating? If you have a damaged cartilage? It's possible. I'm just saying that it isn't going to be as quick and that's just the way it is. It's part of aging.

But again, the body has an amazing capacity to regenerate. Give it all the tools and it really helps. One of the things that helps regenerate vitamin D again, and I know I talk about it all the time and B12. Big time. Big time. Big time. Okay. Bone broth. Yep. Good for you. Good for your skin, good for your cartilage, good for your collagen. Okay guys, shortened version a little bit, but I think I got to all the questions. If I missed any, would you let me know? Okay, we got a great week coming guys. Okay, great week coming. Don't be shy. Ask your questions. We appreciate it. Okay, we love you. Talk to you soon.
