Announcer: You're listening to The Doctor Is In Podcast, brought to you by MartinClinic.com. During the episode, the doctors share a lot of information. As awesome as the info may be, it is not intended to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent any disease. It's strictly for informational purposes.
Dr. Martin: Well, good morning everyone, and how are ya? Once again, welcome to another live this morning. Hope you're having a great start to your day. We appreciate you guys. Thanks for coming on. Okay, couple of announcements. I'll make 'em at the end of the program too. Okay, sale Black Friday, starts on Black Friday. We made a mistake. I don't know what happened. Okay, they can blame the senior all you want. I'll deny it. I don't know what happened, but we had the wrong dates. Friday the 28th starting and right through til Monday, December 1st, the block Friday sale and 90 something percent sure higher 95, the book will be ready for the sale. Rebuilding Your Temple will be ready for the sale. Later on in the week, I'll be able to give you a guarantee, but we're pretty confident, okay? The book will be ready for the Black Friday sale.
So guys, you don't even have to think about your Christmas gift this year. You don't have to think about it. Your friends, family members, they're going to want to get this book because what a gift it will be, okay? Rebuilding your Temple coming and I think it'll be ready for Good Friday. And when I say I think it's because I have to wait to confirm that it will be ready to be shipped. Okay? Anywho, keep tuned this week. Okay guys, we love you. Thanks again for tuning in. Let's get back to our questions. We didn't finish them all and we got some new studies by the way, and maybe we'll have time today to look at these, okay?
Kathy, "a refresher please Dr. Martin, a refresher on how to elevate progesterone naturally." Guys, lemme tell you this, ladies. Ladies, when you don't feel good when your hormones are out of whack, I don't care what your doctor says, and I mean that, I hate to say that, but I don't care what your doctor says. If you've got brain fog, you're not full of pee and vinegar, if you know what I mean by that. If you're gaining weight and you're just looking at food, you're out of whack. Okay? You're out of whack. And I can tell you with great certainty, because I didn't guess in practice, I tested and you got a hormonal storm going on, okay? And you better start at that foundation because you guys know me. Let's see, I draw that pyramid all the time, right? You've seen me draw the pyramid all the time.
At the top, you got your thyroid, okay? Draw circles, just draw a pyramid. Draw circles, two circles at the bottom of the pyramid, estrogen on one side and progesterone on the other. Foundational ladies. Foundational. Because when you don't have balance within estrogen and progesterone, it messes up the entire picture of hormone. And that's a big problem today because we live in a world of estrogen dominance, every chemical, one and a half credit cards worth of microplastics that your body absorbs. We live in a crazy world, and unless you're planning on leaving the planet, you're going to be exposed to this. And this affects women big time. It affects men too, but women. But why? Why women? Because you're complicated, ladies, you got a lot of moving parts. Estrogen. Men, it's just simply testosterone. Okay? Testosterone. It's nothing complicated about it, but ladies, estrogen and progesterone got to be balanced.
So the question is asked, Kathy, I'm glad you asked. You are asking about, okay, Dr. Martin, give us a refresher on progesterone. How do we get it up? How do we get our progesterone and estrogen leveled out for us to feel better? Very good question. And when you get estrogen down, that helps your progesterone, okay? It does. So get estrogen down. What do I teach you guys all the time? Dim it out. Dim it out. DIM, dim it out. And one of the ways you do that is through flax seeds. I'm not big on seeds, guys. I'm not, you won't hear me talking about seeds all the time. Why? Well, you're not a squirrel. You're not a chipmunk, but I do like flax seeds because they are packed with lignans and lignans block extra estrogen. So does dim. We have dim in our menopausal formula. I even have men taking dim. It's good for you. That formula elevates progesterone. Proven, okay?
So you want to dim out the estrogen, elevate the progesterone. Here's what elevates progesterone. Sun, steak and steel and sleep. Everything that is good for you elevates your progesterone ladies, okay? The sun elevates progesterone. Vitamin D elevates progesterone. Steak, sun, steak and steel, vitamin E elevates your progesterone. It does. Everything that's good. Get your sleep because, because there's a reason for this. Maximize sleep. Do everything you can to get into a good REM sleep. Why is that? Well, because when you don't sleep, cortisol, which should be low when you're sleeping, almost non-existent. When you don't sleep, your cortisol goes up. When your cortisol goes up, you don't sleep. You know what that does? It robs progesterone. Ladies, you need progesterone to make cortisol. Well, the higher your cortisol is, it robs it. Sun, steak, steel, sleep elevates your progesterone. So does magnesium. You guys know me, I love magnesium. The world is deficient in magnesium.
Here's what the world is deficient in. B12, vitamin D and magnesium, big time. You can't go wrong with magnesium because we're deficient in it. It's not in the soil. If it's not in the soil, it's not in your food, and you need magnesium for progesterone. Okay? We got two ingredients, the vitex in the menopausal formula, the chasteberry, really good to elevate progesterone and get muscle up because muscle. Look, ladies, you're always going to have, or at least the way you're built, you're going to have more body fat percentage than a man just generally. Now, a lot of men, of course today, their testosterone is really low and one of the reasons is because their estrogen is dominant and a man that should never, ever, ever be after the age of 50. And you guys know this because I say it on this program all the time, a lot of men, and most men have more estrogen than their wives, and that's not good for the prostate.
But ladies, muscle building, getting rid of some of that fat, that really helps. It really helps. Now, when you're upside down in terms of all those hormones, it's not easy because you're a fat storing machine. But guys, one thing you know that I've taught you get insulin down, 93% of the population deal with insulin resistance. Their cells are tired of insulin. And this is why, you know me, I'm a low carb guy. I'm not a no carb guy. I'm a low carb guy, okay? I'm a no carb for 30 days when you do the reset, and I highly recommend that by the way. Your hormones are out of whack, do the reset, empty your liver. It'll really make a difference because insulin resistance not only creates inflammation in the body, but it's a fat storage hormone. Estrogen, fat storage, insulin, fat storage. So food is important, guys. Food is important. Okay, that was a good question and that was Kathy.
Okay, Sheryl with an S. "My index finger on my left hand has been swollen for months and it's now moving to my other fingers. It's painful, but not all the time. Is this arthritis possibly?" I mean, the real way to find out if you have arthritis is to x-ray your hand, but it often starts like that. Osteoarthritis can start in one joint of a finger and start spreading, and usually it's at the distal end. Usually you get your arthritis. When I say distal, I mean right near your fingertip, that joint, you're asking if it's rheumatoid. Again, I can't say for sure, Sheryl, I guess you sent me your CRP, which isn't very high. Your rheumatoid factor was within normal limits, but that doesn't mean it's not possible that it's starting out that way. Okay? Anyway, yeah, it could be the start of osteoarthritis for sure. How old are you, Sheryl? That's a good question to ask, but you don't have to answer it publicly.
I remember a patient in my office, a lady, I said, how old are you? Okay, I already knew, I had her file, but she didn't like me asking. She said, that's none of your business. I took it lightly. I didn't take it personally. It's none of your biz wax. You don't get to ask women how old you are. I do. I don't always get away with it. Okay, that was Sheryl. Caroline, and you and I, Caroline are going to have a disagreement here, okay? But that doesn't mean I don't love you. As a matter of fact, I'm glad you brought this up, okay?Because you're saying, okay, and you really didn't ask a question, or maybe you did, but I don't see it here. You talked about Caroline meat can contribute to ammonia buildup in people with liver disease. I disagree with that. That whole premise of the ammonia built up with people with liver disease, I don't think meat contributes to that at all. I'll tell you what does is sugar. Sugar contributes to that, okay?
And I just got to tell you my clinical experience, it was amazing what happens in the liver when you go low carb, okay? Again, I'm not saying no carb, but when you go very low carb and high on the meat, I'm big on that. You know that, sun, steak and steel. I've never seen, and I mean Caroline, tens of thousands of patients, tens of thousands more than that we're instructed in my office with liver disease, fatty liver, even maybe early stages of cirrhosis of the liver. The best thing you can do with cirrhosis of the liver is get away from the carbohydrates. What destroys your liver is all that glycogen in the liver. And then when it delivers full, the Costco parking lot is full. The fat around that liver and that gums up the liver and it hinders its filtering process. It hinders the production of glutathione. It hinders the detoxification process.
And so I always blame sugar and not meat, and I know that it's popular to blame meat for that and the ammonia, but personally I never saw that. I saw the opposite of what you're saying clinically. And again, I believe Caroline, there's an agenda out there and it's been going on for a long time and I watched it happen and I commented on it. Remember I had a radio show before I had a podcast for 20 years, I had a radio show and I was screaming about the nonsense of the vegetarian or vegan diet, and I called it for what it was, propaganda. And the liver is an organ that is the absolute essential. I have taught liver physiology for a long time to lay people so they understand because even doing a detox, they always ask me, Dr. Martin, can I do a detox? Yeah, sure you can. Okay, what do I do? Well lay off the sugar. Lay off sugar molecules that are holding hands like bread, pasta and cereals and rice and that kind of thing. Lay off that stuff. You'll see your liver will clean itself out.
You want to do a detox, go low carb as a matter of fact, go no carb for a bit. You'll see your body will start burning ketones. Your liver will clean itself out. You will detox big time, and there's two drinks I want you to drink for your liver. Water and coffee. The coffee enema became very popular, didn't it? Why coffee? Ehhh, because it's good for the liver. That's why. The coffee enema went through the portal vein up to your liver. What a detox. You can do an enema if you want, but I'd rather drink it. Anyway, I'm glad you brought it up, Caroline, because I want you thinking and you can challenge me every which way you want, and that's all right. I want to be challenged. I don't want you to be yes people. You know what I mean by that? The doctor said it, therefore it must be true. I try and get people thinking. I want to show them the other side, and I can tell you with great certainty that they just don't teach nutrition 101 in medical schools. They should. You would think that food is an important part of health, but they don't teach it. They leave it to dieticians.
So there's another profession, and I'm going to tell you besides cardiologists, I just don't know of a profession like the dieticians that have got food so wrong. It's unbelievable. But they're sponsored by big food. So you've got big food, you've got big pharma, and boy oh boy, as the world turns, they make a turn and they influence medical schools, they influence dietician schools. They influence all of that guys. That's a big problem. That's a big problem. Okay, thanks for the question. I much appreciate it. Don't be scared to challenge me. Don't be shy. Don't be shy and I mean it. You have a forum here to challenge, challenge. Dr. Martin, you're wrong. Maybe.
Susanna, "I was wondering how much of bone broth do I need to consume day to increase my muscle?" Well, listen, Susanna, it's a good question. Let me tell you this, okay? The best way to build muscle in food is to eat protein. Prioritize protein. Protein is king. Now, the best protein of all the proteins is eggs, meat and cheese. It comes from the animal kingdom. It's why bone broth is so good, okay? It is because it's collagen protein and collagen protein is fantastic. Okay? It is. So how much? Well, I don't know. It's hard to say. And besides just eating protein without working out your muscles, Susanna, in my opinion, it won't do it. It's still important. I want people to prioritize protein. Protein is king. It's the king of the castle, and carbs are the dirty rascal, bad carbs.
So yeah, protein is important. How much? I don't like measuring that kind of stuff. I'm not big on that. You don't hear me talking about well eat this many grams a day. I don't know. I never was so much for that. Just prioritize it. You ought to have protein on every meal. I mean, if you're going to skip breakfast, hey, good for you. You don't need it necessarily. It's not the most important meal of the day unless you start it the wrong way. Because people used to ask me that, what's the most important meal of the day? Well, it ain't breakfast, but it is if you eat the wrong foods at breakfast, cause most people eat too many way too many carbs at breakfast. That ain't good for them. So you're better off skipping breakfast than having a Pop-Tart or cereal. Don't touch it with a hundred foot pole. How bacon and eggs, but protein, yeah, I'm big on it, but how much? I don't know.
I don't know what to tell you other than you better do sun, steak and steel because that's really important. The sun's important for muscle. Steak is important for muscle. Steel is important for muscle. I used to say on my radio program all the time, lift, lift heavy things. For a woman that may be less than a man lifting heavy thing, but lifting heavy things are good for you. But any exercise is good. Move the muscle but resistant even with bands and that are really effective. Okay? Get stronger. You know me, I talk about that all the time. That was a good question. Thank you very much. I appreciate it. I don't want to give you a number because I don't know. I don't want to give you grams. I don't know. Some people say they know, but I'm not convinced they know. Everybody's different. Okay, that was Susanna.
Gail has, "essential tremors in my right hand for approximately five years." Okay, "they're slowly becoming more pronounced." Okay, well look, Gail, again, if you were in my office in my days of practice, I saw a lot of essential tremors, okay? Different reasons for it. But I was a guy that in my practice, everybody got tested. So I was looking for deficiencies. I was looking for B12 and generally with the essential tremors generally wasn't always the case. They were low in B12, they were low in vitamin D, usually not always again, okay, you might be an exception to that. What I would suggest, B12 too, the blood tests, it's not that I don't look at it, but I had another way of testing B12 through levels of nitric oxide. But the other thing is that make sure your vitamin D levels are good. Vitamin D is everything. It affects every ounce of your body.
And tremors sometimes can be a lack of magnesium. I've seen that too whether it a deficiency in magnesium, check all those things, okay? And you can certainly take magnesium, it's good for you and see if it makes a difference. B12, methylcobalin, like see if it makes a difference for you. Check your DHA, your omega-3 levels, okay? A lot of times that neurological, the brain, your brain is made up of that DHA fat and sometimes those synapses are just not firing all in all cylinders. The other thing is the cranial nerves can be affected from the neck. Have that checked and make sure you're ruling out Parkinson's and MS and other neurological neurodegenerative conditions. Thanks for the question. Much appreciated.
Let's get to another one, Shelley. "Should a person eating a carnivore diet, including cheese," okay, "eating a carnivore diet, including cheese," okay, I like it, "supplement with B12 and vitamin D?" Well, yes and no. Okay. You know me, I'm big on supplementing B12 and vitamin D. It depends on your age. It depends on your numbers, but generally when you're having a carnivore diet, you're not low in B12. Now, B12 is a finicky vitamin, finicky, it's a large molecular structure. It is hard to absorb on the best of days, but when you're having a carnivore diet, you're probably eating a lot of red meat. It's the vegetarians and vegans need to worry about B12 and vitamin D. They certainly are not getting it in their diet. You would be getting it, but you might be low anyways. Get your blood work done, okay? You might not be absorbing B12.
And by the way, guys, and even then, vitamin D, the best way to get your vitamin D levels up is one, the sun, two supplementation, three with food. Remember, vitamin D in food is found in the animal kingdom. Thus the Inuit before called Eskimo, they weren't out sunbathing, okay? So obviously they weren't getting it from the sun. They would get it from their food. They weren't supplementing, but they were like supplementing because they had a lot of cod liver oil and they ate all that blubber and they got their vitamin D on a daily basis from food, and they weren't low in vitamin D, but very few people can get the amount they need of vitamin D from food. They just don't eat enough of it. So that's why it's so easy to supplement today with vitamin D. It's very good for you, and of course, if you can. The best way to get vitamin D is from the sun. Sun, steak and steel. I meant it. Okay, I think I got to all the questions. Lemme just see. I think I did. Okay, if I missed, let me know.
Okay, now guys, tomorrow afternoon session 4:00 PM, okay? Afternoon session tomorrow and Thursday is Thanksgiving. I should be on Thanksgiving morning. Okay, is Thanksgiving for my American friends. So tomorrow afternoon, okay, we'll post that. Thursday should be on unless something comes up at the last minute. So we plan on doing five sessions this week. Remember the sale Black Friday, I think the book's coming with it, Friday, November 28th through Monday. What do they call Monday now? Cyber Monday? I can't remember. Monday. Okay, so Black Friday through Monday, December 1st, the sale is on and the book. Okay, I hope to make an announcement definite, definite, definite in the next few days that that book will be available for Black Friday. Okay guys, we love you dearly, sincerely. We love you dearly. Thank you.
