Dr. Martin answers questions sent in by our listeners in today's episode.

TRANSCRIPT OF TODAY'S EPISODE

Announcer:  You're listening to The Doctor Is In Podcast, brought to you by MartinClinic.com. During the episode, the doctors share a lot of information. As awesome as the info may be, it is not intended to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent any disease. It's strictly for informational purposes.

Dr. Martin:  Well, good morning, everyone. And once again, welcome to another live this morning. I'm on the road. I think you can tell not in my studio this morning, traveling, but I didn't want to miss Q&A.

First question from Sandy. She's recently seen ads on Facebook for a supplement called Memogenesis, which Bill Gates is supposedly pushing. Okay. What do you think of this and other similar supplements to stave off dementia?

Okay. Okay. Let's talk about this for a minute, because it's a good question, Sandy. I have no idea about that drug or that supplement called Memogenesis.

I don't know. I didn't even look it up. I have no experience with it. I have no patients that ever told me anything about it if they took it.

So I'm not going to comment too much. I'll tell you what I know. Okay. I'll tell you what I know, Sandy.

Okay. Number one, you're not going to take a supplement and fix dementia because you can't out supplement a bad diet. So I always say, I mean, when it comes to your brain, and we talk a lot about this, as you well know, Sandy, we talk a lot about the brain because it's headquarters. Everything you eat, 25% of it goes up to the brain.

And remember what they call Alzheimer's, type three diabetes. It's really diabetes of the brain. Fatty liver is diabetes of the liver. Heart disease really is diabetes of the heart.

What? Yeah, it really is. Because there's nothing as destructive as sugar that stays inside your bloodstream. And some people get affected by the brain.

Some people get affected and damages their blood vessels. Okay. And without the official diagnosis of diabetes, because diabetes occurs, you guys know my statement. You're on the Titanic if your E1C is above 5.4.

You're already on there. You got to turn the ship around. So no supplement is going to outdo your diet. The key is to getting sugars down big time.

Get off the carbs that turn to sugar big time. Get off those fatty oils that are bad oils that belong in your car and not in your body because they create an enormous amount of inflammation in the body. So you know what I'm saying, guys? You can't out supplement a bad diet.

You can't out supplement bad sleep because remember, the only time that your brain repairs itself, the self-cleaning oven of your brain takes what? Sleep. Sun, steak, steel, sleep. Now, I'll tell you what I do for my brain.

And I mention this a lot of times. What does Dr. Martin do? What do I want to do for prevention?

I want to keep my noggin up here, guys. I want to keep my brain. And I use my senior card a lot, though, sometimes as an excuse. I forgot.

But guys, I want to keep my brain sharp. I'll tell you what I do. I'm a very, very low carb eater. I eat a lot of eggs, meat, and cheese.

You guys, if you wonder if I don't be just a hearer, the Bible says, be a doer. I do what I say. And I've been doing that for about almost 60 years. I've been eating low carb.

Not no carb, but low carb. I eliminated sugar when my dad became a diabetic in 1968. I never had another soda with sugar in it. I stopped drinking orange juice and apple juice.

Guys, I watch my dad and that's me. And that has a major connection to your brain. Eat the right foods. My supplements, you know that, but I'm going to emphasize them again.

Here's my formula for the brain. Navitol, blood supply. Nitric oxide opens up the blood vessel because that's a big problem in Alzheimer's and dementia. Vascular dementia.

Okay? High DHA. Why? Because your brain's made up of DHA.

Your brain's made up of DHA. So I use Navitol, the DHA. There's a lot of research on curcumin. I love curcumin.

We'll talk about it in a minute because there's a question about it this morning. It's very anti-inflammatory. It's very anti-cancer, but anyway, that's another issue. And here's another thing that's important for your brain.

The gut-brain connection. Leaky gut, leaky brain. Fixed leaky gut. That's why I'm big on probiotics.

And guys, it's nothing new for you. I've been talking like this for well over 40 years on probiotics. I always believed in probiotics when people didn't even know what the microbiome was. Nobody was talking about it, but I knew the importance of having no garbage in your blood like yeast or fungus.

Toxins, heavy metals like mercury, lead, cadmium. Plastics getting up into the brain. Okay? So that's me.

So Sandy, thanks for the question. I don't know about what Bill Gates is talking about. Now you had a second part to that question. Let me...

Okay? My 11-year-old grandson had been diagnosed with ADHD. Okay, well food, food. Him and sugar.

Your grandson will not get along with sugar. You know, I used to tell my patients with ADHD. They're very smart, by the way. I wanted kids, not to just talk to parents, I talked to the child.

And kids are smart. They know that their brain, like they're bing, bing, bang off the walls. They can't focus. They're always in trouble.

This kind of thing. I used to grab them by their little face, okay? And say, listen, listen, what you put in your mouth is going to affect your brain. I said, you like eggs?

Yeah? Free food. You like bacon? Oh, I love bacon.

Free food. Eggs, meat. You like cheese? I love cheese.

Free food. Now, be careful now. If you have bread, I want you to have very little of it. If you're having a pizza, you can have a slice.

The second slice, take the toppings and just eat the toppings. Eat the cheese. Eat the pepperoni. Put a lot of meat on it.

You like meat? Oh, I like meat. Good. Have lots of meat.

It will help your brain. I'm not saying you can never have ice cream or anything like that, but I'm saying you got to really watch it because you and sugar don't get along and bread turns to sugar in nanoseconds. So you can't have a lot of that. Do you understand that?

Because that's just the way it is. It's not fair, but it's you're the canary in the coal mine. And I used to tell them the story of the canary in the coal mine. So got it?

Okay. Okay. Now, that was Sandy. Lucy, can you talk about exercises for seniors that will be sufficient?

Well, look, here's my rule of thumb. And by the way, for the brain, I forgot my senior card, vitamin D and B12. B12 is very important for the brain. Okay.

We talked about that yesterday. Okay. Now, exercises. Lucy, get stronger.

Your goal and any senior's goal. And when it comes to exercise, it's not cardio and it's getting stronger. Muscles. Why?

Muscles will keep you from falling. Or if you do, you'll be able to help yourself. Do everything you can to keep yourself where you can get out of a chair. You need muscles for that as you get older.

So anything like even hand grippers, elastic bands. If you can do a pushup, you can get these bars. I have them. I'm not at home.

Otherwise, I would show it to you. I've got bars that help you to do a pushup. Stay strong. Get stronger.

Everyone can get stronger. That's the one I like the most. If you can walk, I like that too, but it doesn't beat the importance of muscle. And everyone, I don't care if you're 80 years old, you can get stronger than you are at this moment.

That's key. Like if you want to go to a gym, of course, vitamin E, sun, steak, and steel. Don't go steal stuff. Steel is getting stronger, building muscle.

And even at 80, I've seen patients at 85 that got stronger. Remember where your biggest muscle is? Your leg muscles. And muscles help your bones stay strong.

Muscles are a sponge to take sugar out of your bloodstream because insulin needs muscles to store sugar. They're mops. Muscles are mops for sugars and storage bins for sugars. Okay?

So remember, if you're a muscle man, thank you, Lucy, for the question. Okay. Let's get back here to Tina. What are my thoughts on wild yam cream?

Well, look, it sort of mimics progesterone, but it's not a bioidentical. Okay? Like some people get some benefits from taking wild yam and just putting it on their skin, but it's not a true bioidentical. I did bioidenticals in my office.

Okay? Now, our menopausal formula will elevate, and we can prove it. Okay? I proved it in my office.

It can elevate your progesterone. It balances your estrogen, balances it. If there's too much estrogen, which is often the case because of xenoestrogens, it'll balance that because it has dim in it. D-I-M.

It's a broccoli extract. Okay? It dims out estrogen. I like flax seeds to dim out estrogen because that's what lingons do.

Okay? And wild yam, to be honest, I never saw a lot of results with wild yam cream. People were using it. If you get results, hey, I got no problem.

But I like better where I could monitor where that progesterone was going up because we used to test it in our office. Okay. See, Tina has large fibroids. So remember what makes things grow, Tina.

Estrogen and insulin. Okay? Estrogen and insulin. So dim it out.

Lower your carbohydrates big time. Okay? Tammy, she's got problems with her. I think we talked about this, but she sent me more information.

Yeah. You got some real problems, calcified ligaments and that going down your spine. Yeah. Okay.

So look, I would have you on vitamin D with K2 because K2 takes the calcium. Okay. And puts it in bones rather than in your ligaments. So I mean, look, you're going to be limited because if they're already calcified, it's not easy to decalcify Tammy, your ligaments.

So I would look at anything anti-inflammatory. Get off the sugars. Sugars are very inflammatory. Get off the bad oils, the middle aisles of your grocery store.

Get off that kind of food because almost all of them have too much, way too much bad oils and omega-6. And you need more omega-3. You need lubrication. So good oil like DHA, omega-3, EPA, DHA.

I like the DHA better. Okay. And I like curcumin. Okay.

Who's asking about curcumin? Let me do that right now. Rita, does curcumin supplement contain oxalates? No.

I know why you're saying it, Rita. Okay. Because you read about turmeric and turmeric can have oxalates. Tea has oxalates.

Spinach oxalates. A lot of vegetables. Oxalates. Okay.

Now that doesn't mean you can never have. I'm just saying that's where oxalates come from. Understand this, Rita. Curcumin is an extract of turmeric.

So there's no oxalates in curcumin. There's no oxalates there. It's an extract. Turmeric, by the way, is not easily absorbed by the body.

But curcumin, when you combine it with pepper, is well absorbed. Okay. So thank you very much. And that was Rita.

Okay. Let's get back to Lisa. Lisa, my brother says he has metallic taste in his mouth. Okay.

That could be a lot of things. Okay. Here's what I found in my practice. If they had a metallic taste in their mouth, antibiotics, high blood pressure medication, or diabetic medication.

Okay. So those things can cause a metallic taste. Or you could have gum disease. He could have gum disease.

Okay. I'm just telling you the possibilities. He could have sinus problems. Chronic sinusitis can sometimes give you a metallic taste in the mouth.

Acid reflux, silent. That can give you a metallic taste in your mouth. What else did I see in my office? Well, here's some more obvious ones.

Kidney issues, liver issues. I mean, you can diagnose that by getting a kidney function test and liver enzyme test done. So it could be any of those things, Lisa. Okay.

So if you want to mention that to him, I don't know what he's doing, but those are the things that I saw when I was in the office. Brenda, I've noticed that my BP is getting higher. You say high, it's going up. Okay.

What is it? What are those numbers? Okay. Because a lot of people think they have high blood pressure and they really don't.

Okay. I'm not so worried about the top number. Not that I don't look at it. Of course I do.

But if your bottom number is above 90, that's high blood pressure. The top number, I don't care near as much. When that bottom number gets over 90. Now, when you get up in the morning, if you take your blood pressure when you first get up, remember cortisol is supposed to be elevated in the morning and cortisol will elevate your blood pressure to some extent.

That would be normal. Okay, Brenda, if you have a coffee, it brings it down. Well, that's weird. Coffee's good for you.

You guys know that. I take a supplement every day of coffee. Isn't coffee a gift of God? And you find it lowers your blood pressure.

Hallelujah. Good for you. Drink it. But Brenda, send more information to Info at Martin Clay because when you say it's high, what do you mean by that?

I need some numbers. And look at that bottom number. Okay. Look at your bottom number.

Okay. Roger, is there any concern taking a testosterone supplement and your cortisol formula the same day? Why is that? Why would there be any concern about it?

Okay. As they both have ashwagandha in it. So, so what? Okay.

My heart, I've got a health issue with two heart stents and a pacemaker. Okay. But like ashwagandha is good for you, man. I don't get the connection.

You want to increase your testosterone, take vitamin D, which you're taking. I love that. Okay. Vitamin D.

Eat steak. That's the best way. Elevate your testosterone. Okay.

I wasn't big on giving men testosterone. I did it for a few men, but I tried to get them to, you get into a gym, you elevate your testosterone. You get in the sun, you elevate your testosterone. Okay.

So anyway, Joanne is asking a good question. Is it necessary to take B12 if you eat eggs, meat and cheese every day? Well, you're doing the right thing, Joanne. Well, that depends.

Okay. Because B12, you can actually measure it. Now the blood test, it's a hundred years old. We should give it a birthday party and put it away.

Okay. I like measuring B12. I did the blood test. I got no problem with it, except that what they look at is normal, ain't normal.

What did I mention yesterday? If it's under 400, the nerves start undergoing what they call demyelination. The myelin sheath is starting to be destroyed if your B12 is under 400. What is it?

200 and something is normal. I never looked at that. I always optimize B12, always optimize B12. But you should get your numbers because I can give you a much better answer if you know what your numbers are, Joanne.

They should be between 800 and 1200. And by the way, another way to test really to check your B12, okay, another way to do it is to get your nitric oxide done. And what else did I like? Homocysteine.

Because if your homocysteine is high, your B12 is low. Okay. So that's a test I like too. Okay.

That's Joanne. Hey, the sun's coming in behind me here this morning. That's not good. You always want the sun coming in front of you when you're doing a video, but I'm almost done and we're going to do the rest on Monday.

I got a lot of questions. Okay. Claude with A1C above 5.4, which is considered the Titanic. Where have you ever heard that Claude?

Where did you hear that? Right here on this program. Okay. Do you have a sweet spot for this number?

Yeah, the sweet spot really is 5.4 and lower. Okay. Like some people, like if you can get it at 5 and 5.2, even better. The lower your A1C, the better it is.

Sweet spot. I sort of call the sweet spot 5.4 because if you're 5.4, you're all right. If it's above it, you're on the Titanic. So lower than 5.4 would be a sweet spot.

If you're at 5.2, even better. Okay. That's Claude. Thank you for that.

Okay. The rest we'll do on Monday because the sun is bugging me. I can't see myself. Okay.

Guys, we love you. Thank you. You guys are great. Monday, it's a holiday in Canada.

I think. Yeah. But that's all right. I'm on.

I don't take holidays. How's that? Okay. We'll see you soon.
