Announcer: You're listening to The Doctor Is In Podcast, brought to you by MartinClinic.com. During the episode, the doctors share a lot of information. As awesome as the info may be, it is not intended to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent any disease. It's strictly for informational purposes.
Dr. Martin: Well, good morning, everyone. And once again, welcome to another live this morning. Thank you very much for following, guys. We appreciate it big time.
Okay. Now, look, I'm going to answer a question that I thought I answered about Dr. Martin. Okay.
The question was, and I just, I should have wrote down who asked the question because I saw it on the weekend. Let me get into protein, harder to digest. Okay. Well, the answer to that is yes and no.
Yes and no. Okay. Because I think the question was, well, if it's harder to digest, why do we need to eat it? And why do you need digestive enzymes and that?
But let me qualify my answer here. Okay. Because it's harder to digest or longer to digest. Okay.
Not really. Okay. So listen up. We're going to follow steak and a potato.
Okay. We're going to follow steak versus a potato in digestion. Okay. Now you're having a piece of steak.
It goes from your mouth, obviously, but the digestion starts right there because in your mouth, you're releasing some enzymes, breaking the food down as you chew on it, right? Gets into your stomach. Now there, the steak, okay. The steak in the stomach, you want to have very, very, very acidic stomach.
Now guys, I teach this all the time. Where you want to be acidic in your body, nowhere else, just your stomach. And you should have more acidity in your stomach than a lion. And as far as I know, lions don't eat plants.
Okay. So a human being, you're created with a very acidic stomach. And when someone tells you not to eat red meat, not to eat steak, run, forest, run. They don't know what they're talking about because your body was designed to eat meat.
I'm not saying only meat. I'm just saying you're designed to eat meat. So now steak has arrived in your stomach. If your acidity is the way it's supposed to be, very acidic.
I should be able to take a little bit of your acid, the juice, the acid from your stomach and burn a hole in your kitchen table. That's how acidic your stomach should be. But you and I live in a world because we're carboholics, because we eat too much sugar, too many carbs, too many plants compared to meat.
The pH in our stomach, use it or lose it? The pH in the stomach rises, starts becoming more alkaline. Is that good? No.
You want to be alkaline everywhere else. A lot of people argue about pH. Cancer can't grow in an alkaline environment because I've heard that a million times. But guys, your pH in your blood is tightly, tightly controlled.
And people don't realize you want an acidic stomach. So if you get acid reflux, that's because your stomach isn't acidic. That's because your stomach isn't acidic enough and your body tries to compensate those proton pumps in your stomach, starts secreting more acid. The problem with that is, usually goes through the door up to your esophagus.
You got a little valve there. In a condition called Barrett's esophagus, that valve gets damaged. Now acid is going up into your esophagus. You can get a heartburn, like a lot of people know exactly what I'm talking about.
And you know what they do? They take a pill to lower their acidity. That's not a good thing. Okay, I understand you don't want to have heartburn, but you're just putting a band-aid on the problem.
You're not fixing that problem at all. As a matter of fact, you're making it worse. It's amazing. Now let me just show something to you for a minute.
It's amazing how many, I'm going to say thousands now, have patients that did the reset. The reset means you're cutting out carbs for 30 days. It's a no carb, 30 day reset. A lot of reasons behind it, but if you're new, you might not know it, but everybody else knows what I'm talking about because we talk about it, the metabolic reset almost every day.
When you cut out the carbs and you cut out sugars and you do it for 30, and they go, man, my digestion is so much better. Yeah. Because now your body's acidity in your stomach, the pH starts to go down and you've become more acidic in your stomach where you need it. Acidity needs to be contained within the stomach.
The biggest problem, why we see so much acid reflux today, whether silent or where you get severe heartburn is because we're eating the wrong foods. We're carboholics. We're sugarholics. A lot of vegetarians and a lot of vegans, they get a lot of trouble with their digestion.
Now, back to the main story. You just swallowed, you just are having a stick. It's now in your stomach. The protein, which is steak is very high in protein.
That's one of the reasons it's so good for you and amino acids. It's so good for you. You know me. Want to see my T-shirt?
Son, steak and steel and sleep. Okay. Now, but when your stomach breaks down, that steak, it's so nutrient dense. Yeah, it takes time in there.
It takes some time in there. And then the nutrients that are broken down go into the small intestine for absorption into the bloodstream. But let me explain something very important here. Now, the rest of it is sent from the small to the large to end up in the toilet.
Here's the issue with steak. Okay. It's a good thing. This is very important.
You don't get a lot of garbage in a steak. You don't get a lot of fiber that's sent into the bowel. You do get some fiber, but that's not the point. Because there's no waste, you're going to get very little residue.
Okay. Now, I'm going to bring you a potato. We're eating it. Okay.
It goes to your stomach. True. It doesn't take long in your stomach to be digested. But if you calculate that there will be like there's some nutrition in a potato, so that will get absorbed in the small intestine because it's broken down into a mulch in your stomach, goes to your small intestine there.
The nutrients parts of it are sent into your bloodstream for energy, the glucose and that, right? From a potato. But you're going to get a fair amount of food that's not digested. Okay.
You don't need it. So it's sent into your bowel and you're getting a fair amount of fiber from that. Okay. And people go, oh, that's a good thing.
And I don't agree with that. The steak is better because really it takes you less time to digest it. Okay. So you're going to get a fair amount of And I don't agree with that.
The steak is better because really it takes you less time to digest if you add the large intestine because you have to. When you eat a steak, there's no waste, hardly any. You're not going to see a steak come out in your stool a little bit, but not much. A potato?
Lots. And a lot of doctors go, well, heck, you got a lot of fiber. Isn't that good? Fiber, fiber, fiber.
You need that. Well, I'm going to tell you something. The little bit of fiber that in a steak, get a little bit, that feeds your microbiome much more than a potato does, much more than your salad does, much more than your cereal does. You want to have a big stool?
Eat cereal. What happens? Well, because a lot of it is waste. The nutrition, little we've been in nutrition and cereal, lots of fiber.
So actually, it takes you a longer time to digest cereal than it does to digest a steak. You get the answer now? Okay. Because there's two parts to your digestion.
The stomach? Yes. Protein takes a little longer. It has to be mulched up.
That's why we love digestive enzymes. That's why we love for your stomach to be very, very, very acidic. Okay? If you eat cereal, you don't need an acidic stomach really.
And that's what happens. People live on carbs, like cereals, like rice, like bread, like noodles, like Kraft Dinner, like muffins, like bagels, like whatever. And they wonder why they got acid reflux. Well, use it or lose it.
Your stomach was made for that steak. Your stomach was made for that egg. Your stomach was made for that good dairy, like butter and cheese. Okay?
And cream. That's what your stomach is made for, specifically. It doesn't mean you can't have any carbs. Okay?
I'm not a no-carb guy. People ask me all the time, do you believe in ketosis? You bet your boots I believe in ketosis. That's why I put people on a 30-day reset.
But you can stay in ketosis if you want the rest of your life. You can. But I want people to be low carb. Not no carb, low carb.
I want you to live on the planet. I want you to understand how your body works. I want you to understand that a steak is always better than a potato. Always.
A steak is always better than broccoli. Always. Am I saying never eat broccoli? No.
I'm just saying if you look at the nutritional value, there's no comparison. But the world out there, out there, the world out there, they teach you different. Because I heard it even on the weekend. Okay?
Well, I don't eat a lot of red meat. Like, they're going to put a badge on and go, I don't eat a lot of red meat. Well, okay. But that don't make you smart.
That don't make you smart. Because you don't eat a lot of red meat. Oh, Dr. Merritt, I don't eat bacon.
Well, I feel sorry for you. You don't eat bacon? No, it's no good for me. I don't know who told you that, but that's not true.
I don't eat steak. I'd rather have, you know, a salad. I'm sorry. There's no comparison when it comes to nutritional value.
Okay? So I hope I answered the question. Does protein take longer to digest? Only in the stomach.
Not in the rest of the digestive tract. Okay? Got the answer now? I think I answered it.
Okay? If there was another part to it, I can't remember. Okay? But a lot of people, you know, as we get older, especially, whatever, I love digestive enzymes.
I really do. Because for me, I need them. Well, you know what? I'm in my mid-70s.
I don't make as much acidity in my stomach even though I eat good than I used to. It's part of aging. And I know that's why I love digestive enzymes. Okay?
That's the answer. Thanks for the question. And I can't remember the first name and I should have wrote it down. Who asked that question?
If someone that says, oh, Dr. Merritt, that was my question, let me know. Okay? Because I want to acknowledge a very good question.
Okay, Claude, I answered your question the other day, didn't I? What is Dr. Martin's sweet spot on A1C? Now remember, guys, if you don't believe sugar is toxic, ask a red blood cell.
What? Sugar laches on in your blood to red blood cells. Come here, red blood cell. It hooks its wagon to it.
It damages it. It glycates it. And you can actually measure it. You can measure it.
Why do you think I love A1C? I do. Why do I love it so much? Because you can tell how much sugar is damaging your body.
If your A1C is above 5.4, you're on the Titanic. If it's 5.4, unless you're not. Okay? That's the sweet spot.
I like it even lower. If you can get your A1C to be lower, 5.2, 4.9. But at 5.5, okay, I brought this to you the other day. At 5.5, you're not only on the Titanic, but brain degeneration starts to occur at an A1C of 5.5.
That's why I call it the Titanic. You're on the Titanic if your A1C is above 5.4. Don't fool yourself. Don't deceive yourself.
The worst deception is self-deception. Okay? Now don't go shoot yourself. A lot of people, they're very hard on themselves.
Okay? Dr. Martin, my A1C is above 5.4. Okay?
Don't panic. I've been doing the reset for 30 days, and it's not below 5.4 yet. Well, Rome wasn't built in a day. You might have had years of abuse of the body.
You didn't know it. You were a carbaholic, and now your body's adjusting. Sometimes it goes very quickly, but most of the time, takes some time. You know?
They get in a panic by blood work, triglycerides. They're not where they're supposed to be. Okay, but let it happen, man. You're doing it.
The first thing you do to fix yourself, the first thing you do, okay, is admit you need help. Okay? You know what the Bible says? It's not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.
That's what Jesus said. Okay? So if your A1C is elevated, your triglycerides are elevated, your HDL is down, you need help. Help yourself, because what you can control is the food that you put in your mouth every day.
Control that. Okay? And again, remember, put it in the back of your cocoon, we used to call it, your cucumber up there. Put it in the back of your throat.
Remember that. Rome wasn't built in a day. Don't be that hard on yourself, okay? Just remember that.
You're turning the ship around. It's a big ship. Okay? Some people have already hit the iceberg.
That's all right. That's all right. Your body has light bulbs. You can get off.
But you can't get off if you don't change your food, because that's the first thing you need to do. No supplement, no drug, no surgery, no nothing ever trumps a bad diet. And that's me. Change your diet.
Change the way you look at food. Understand what your body was meant to eat. You want to have fruits and vegetables? I've got no problem with that.
And I mean that. I just don't want you to live on them, because your body wasn't made for it. Okay? Don't live on the plant kingdom.
You can have it after the 30 days. Okay? There's reasons I do it for the 30 days, because I want to even get you off all oxalates. I want you off all lectins.
I want you off those things to let your body reset. Do you understand why I do it? Get the boat, sun, steak, and steel, because it's got the metabolic reset, and I answer all those questions in it. Okay.
Christine, how harmful are parasites? What does he recommend? Well, parasites, look, there's a lot of stuff online now that says, all cancer is parasites. Do I agree with that?
No, I don't. Okay? No, I don't. That doesn't mean I don't think they're involved necessarily.
I'm more interested for me. Okay? Because I brought this to you many a time. I think yeast is involved in cancer more than parasites are.
Okay? Candida, fungus. I'm convinced of that. That's just my 50 years just about of experience clinically.
Anytime I saw cancer, I usually saw a major overgrowth of Candida, and then they get chemotherapy and it's worse. Anyway, I don't want to get into that too much. The question is, how harmful are parasites? Look, almost everybody has parasites.
Okay? I used to do live blood. Okay? Everybody that came into my office, I mean, we did the traditional blood tests.
We did them all. Vitamin D, your B12, your A1C, your HDL. I wanted all your blood work. But I also said, okay, and I didn't do it.
My staff did it. Took a little drop of blood and let's look at your blood under a powerful microscope. Why? Because it gives you a lot.
It doesn't tell you everything. Okay? Because there are some practitioners that do live blood analysis and holy moly. Like I used to teach it guys.
Okay? I used to teach practitioners how to do live blood. You know what the first thing I said? It's not everything.
Because you can take some courses in live blood. It tells you everything. No, it don't. You know, with Dr.
Martin, I had a live blood test and then I said, I did it for what? 40 years? You think I don't know about live blood? I caught it.
I show you how to do it. And I show you how to interpret it. And I don't dismiss it. But a lot of people, everything you see in live blood, nah, I don't believe that for five seconds because it ain't true.
Okay? It ain't true. And you're not seeing cancer in live blood. But you might see yeast and fungus.
And you know what I mean? Yeah. So guys, I looked at blood. I looked at blood results.
And I've seen parasites every day with live blood. But the key is not the parasite. The key is you okay? The key is not the parasite.
The key is you. It's just like what I was saying through COVID. Remember? Remember what Dr.
Martin said through COVID? Okay? What did I say? Take care of you.
Make sure your immune system is working properly. You know, a mask won't do it. Okay? Six feet distancing, it won't do it.
Washing your hands every five seconds, it won't do it. Okay? It won't do it. You need to take care of your immune system.
And you can't do that if you're full of yeast. And you can't do that if you don't get enough vitamin A. You can't do that unless you get enough vitamin D. You can't even do it if you don't get enough sleep.
So there's a lot of things to the immune system. And sugar, by the way, puts your T cells, your Navy Seals to sleep. So guys, you know I taught that all the time. Okay?
Now back to parasites. Because I'm always going off on rabbit trails. Parasites, yeah. You got a cat?
What's your hand up? You have a cat? You got parasites when they lick you. I don't care, guys.
You can say, well, no, not me. Not my cat. Yeah, your cat. Okay?
You got a dog? You got a dog? It licks you? I've seen people, they love their dog so much, they're French kissing their dog.
You got parasites. Okay? Dogs got parasites. And their body's made to live with them.
A cat? Made to live with them. You? If your immune system's good, no problemo.
That's why you focus in on your immune system. Okay? And one way to help that, probiotics, big time with parasites. Because you got a lot of strains of bacteria in a probiotic that kill parasites.
Like L. ruderi and L. rhamnosus and others. Oil of oregano.
There ain't a parasite in the world that oil of oregano can't kill. You think I love oil of oregano? You bet your boots. And it kills yeast, too.
Why do you think I love it so much? We even put oil of oregano in our digestive enzymes. You know why we do it? To kill the fungus in sepal, small intestine fungal overgrowth.
That the world calls sepal, small intestine bacterial overgrowth. It's really a fungal overgrowth in the small intestine. That's why we add oil of oregano to our digestive enzymes. Okay?
All right. Thank you, Christine. Oh, my. I'm talking way too much.
Bonnie, what does Dr. Martin think about hydrogen water? Ah, look, guys. Look, you want to drink hydrogen water?
I'm not going to stop you. Okay? It's so overrated. Okay?
So is alkaline water, guys. Okay? You got to understand, your body takes care of your pH like this. Tight.
I don't care what kind of water you're drinking. You ain't changing that pH very much. It's tightly regulated. Your body regulates your pH.
Your body has all these buffering systems. And if it needs to make you more alkaline, it releases sodium bicarbonate, baking soda. Your body makes baking soda. Can you believe it?
It keeps your pH very regulated. So when you want to drink water and you want to spend extra money, you know what? I don't care. You can.
It's your body. Look, I've said this a million times. I love mineral water, spring water. Why?
Because its pH is elevated. It already has the minerals in it. Right? And I like adding a touch of Himalayan salt or whatever to my water.
Okay? A little bit of salty water. It's good for you. Okay?
But you know what I mean? If you want to drink, you want to go get water that is really, I know, is it Fiji water or whatever it comes from, and it's a good water. It really is. But think it's expensive.
And if you think that's going to fix cancer, I got Swamp Land for you to sell in Florida. And you know, people that, there used to be this Keegan water, a Keegan water or whatever. And everybody was trying, when I had my radio days, trying to get me to come on board and tell them to buy this $3,000 machine.
And I said, just drink water, my friend. Now, I don't want you drinking distilled water. Okay? Because that's got all the minerals out of it.
Your body's meant to drink the mineralized water, spring water. That's the best. Okay? That's the best.
Okay? I've never moved off that guy. Okay? I've never moved from that position.
And remember, I had a clinic and I had people that were so stinkin' dehydrated. Their blood was like molasses. They were so dehydrated. And you know, I didn't say, well, you better drink alkaline.
Here's hydrogen water that you got to pay a lot more money for. I don't buy it, guys. I just don't. Okay?
And I haven't moved on my position. Okay. Well, you know what, I got more questions to do. That's all right.
Yeah, I do. Okay. Well, I'm not going to get too uptight because I went on a rabbit trail. Lots of them today.
But these are all good questions. So they make for good programs anyways, don't they? Yeah, they're a great question. Okay.
What about parasites, Dr. Martin? It's a great question. What do I think of them?
Yeah, I like you asking me that stuff. Okay. Got it? Okay.
Guys, we love you. Dearly, sincerely, and every other way, because you're the best audience in the world. I boast about you all the time.
I have the most educated audience that should be given honorary PhDs in nutrition and natural health, in self-care. You guys. Okay?
We love you. Talk to you soon.
