Dr. Martin: Well, good morning, everyone. And once again, welcome to another live this morning. Hope you're having a great start to your day. Okay, guys, I know you're going to get tired of me, but I can't help it.
I got the can't help it. I got to tell you about a new study on coffee. And you guys think, well, he's boasting again. Well, I got to tell you, I told you so.
This new study, okay, coffee wins again. And when I say the real vitamin C, I'm doubling down on that. It's the real vitamin C. It is so powerful that this new study, it's incredible.
Because here's what they're saying. Okay, I'll post this after. Okay, the National Library of Medicine. Okay.
And it's in PubMed. The impact of coffee consumption on fructose-related metabolic alterations. Big words. Let me tell you what it means.
Okay. Did you have your coffee this morning? Even you, Maria, in Portugal, did you have your coffee this morning? You should have.
If you haven't, you should have. And even this study, okay, because in the abstract, here's what they said. Oh, by the way, coffee has a thousand phytochemicals. That's why it's much more powerful than ascorbic acid, the other vitamin C.
The other vitamin C. But the real vitamin C, a thousand phytochemicals. Okay. And here's what they're saying in this study.
It protects your body, and we'll get into this, from high fructose corn syrup-induced metabolic diseases. Wow. Guys, that's a wow-wow. It's a triple wow.
Because here's what it's saying. And guys, I don't know if you hear this anywhere else, but I know you hear it here. We talk about the Antichrist of sugars. High fructose corn syrup.
And in this study, it's saying it's real bad, what high fructose corn syrup does. And here's what the study says. The damage it does, it's because it's liquid, especially a liquid fructose. What do we see on this program all the time?
God wants you to eat fruit, not drink it. Okay. Don't drink fruit. Eat it.
Okay. And guys, I put in the only exception, the only little wee asterisk I put in there is what? You can have a few berries in Dr. Martin's Perfect Smoothie.
Okay. Berries. A few. Okay.
You can have that. But what they're saying in this study is high fructose corn syrup, okay, four things. One, you guys know this. What does high fructose corn syrup do especially?
It heads to the liver. It don't pass goat, the gut. Well, it does. We're going to talk about that in a minute.
Okay. High fructose corn syrup heads to the liver in nanoseconds. And guys, even if it's in, let's say high fructose corn syrup is in cereal. Okay.
Doc, I'm not drinking cereal. I'm eating that. Yeah, but, yeah, but high fructose corn syrup is a syrup. It's liquid that's been solidified.
It goes directly to your liver. So when you drink coffee, here's what this study is saying. When you drink coffee, you're protecting your liver from the damage of high fructose corn syrup. What does high fructose corn syrup do in the liver?
Okay. What does it do? It gives you fatty liver, unlike any other carb even. Unlike any other sugar even.
Okay. We know that when you're a carbaholic, carbs, and I'm not even talking about fruits eating an apple or whatever. I'm not even talking about that. I'm talking about when you're eating crappy carbs.
Today's modern bread and pasta and rice and cereals and bagels and muffins and, you know, all these things. They are sugar molecules holding hands and they turn to fat in your liver. The liver gets packed up like the Costco parking lot. I've said that a million times.
Okay. High fructose corn syrup, direct to the liver. Okay. One.
According to this study, when you drink coffee, you're protecting your liver from high fructose corn syrup. Okay. Now remember, because it says it here, that protection from high fructose corn syrup in the liver. Listen to what the study is saying, guys.
Protects your heart. What? Coffee protects your heart because it protects the liver. Okay.
Let me get a picture. Let's see if I can find one here. Let's get the liver out because I can't stand it. Okay.
I like to look at these things. Okay. The digestive system. Okay.
But this is my old Atlas. It's almost as old as me. Okay. Now, see that organ right there, guys?
Okay. Now, if you're listening to a podcast, you can't see it, but visualize what a liver looks like. It's the Rodney Dangerfield of organs. It gets no respect until you're sick.
People don't think of liver. Even when they have fatty liver, they don't know it. Unless you do an ultrasound, fatty liver is silent. But the cascade effect of liver, fat in the liver, is very damaging, guys, even to your heart.
Even to your heart. Because, and guys, you know this, because we talk about this all the time. And again, repetition, repetition, repetition. I can't help myself.
When the liver is full of fat, what does your body do to release that? Triglycerides. The body's got a mechanism. Triglycerides.
Fat balls. Triglycerides. Three fat balls. They get sent into the bloodstream.
Your body is so smart. The problem is, those triglycerides, when they go up, because your liver is packed up with fat. Where did the fat come from? Carbs.
What's worse? High fructose corn syrup. It packs up that fat in the liver so fast. Guys, how do you think a bear gets fat?
How do you think a bear right now, even at this time of the year, they're packing up for hibernation? They're fattening up. They fatten up their liver. And the liver gets full of fat, and then they make fat, fat, fat, fat, fat, fat.
And how do they do it? By eating blueberries. 30,000 a day. It's incredible to be.
It's incredible to be. But guys, very important here. Because when triglycerides are going up, because your body has to, it's compensating for that fat, the Costco parking lot, it's getting rid of triglycerides into the bloodstream. The problem with that, when the liver is gunked up, guess what happens?
Your cholesterol, your HDL, your Amazon trucks, your FedEx trucks, your US Postal Service trucks, the Canada Post trucks, you don't have as many. And remember what your HDL does. It has a wagon. You know, you ever see those trucks with two trailers?
The first trailer of HDL delivers your hormones. Ladies and gentlemen, a lot of women, let me say this, a lot of women, they don't have enough HDL. So guess what? They don't get their hormones that are needed for their thyroid.
Let me not diverge. I'm going to miss what I want to talk about. Triglycerides go up, HDL goes down, because the liver is full of fat. That gets into your blood vessels.
Now you don't have enough trailers to take those triglycerides back out of the bloodstream. They're damaging to your heart. That's what the study is saying. Cardiovascular, liver, coffee, it helps.
It helps the liver. It helps fatty liver. It helps your triglycerides. It helps your HDL cholesterol.
Okay? So it has major cardiovascular benefits besides the liver. What happens in the liver doesn't stay in the liver. Remember, your liver is not lost belly.
I know people think I'm crazy or in a hoodl, but I'm telling you. So you get the benefits of the liver, thus the benefits of the cardiovascular system, drinking coffee. Okay? Three, decrease in obesity.
Well, remember what happens, guys. What happens? Fat, high fructose corn syrup turns to fat rapidly. And when your liver gets all gummed up and besides the triglycerides going into the bloodstream, most people have an unlimited amount of parking spots.
What? For fat? I was in the airport yesterday. Wait a minute.
I was in three airports yesterday. Okay? One, two, three. Yes, three.
Amazing the amount of people that are obese. It's amazing. And if I could give them one little tip, well, I'd give them two. I would say, it's the fructose.
It's high fructose corn syrup. It's an obesity driver. And this study is saying that when you drink coffee, you're helping that. You're really helping that.
You're reducing that. Now look, you can't outdrink a bad diet. Okay, guys? So you can have all the coffee in the world, but you can't outdrink a bad diet.
You can't out supplement a bad diet. You can't out medicate a bad diet. I see that about peptides, GLP-1s and all that. Yeah, yeah.
Oh, doc, isn't that the greatest thing since sliced bread? But you better change your diet. Okay, so liver, cardiovascular, coffee I'm talking. Okay?
Cardiovascular, obesity. Here's the fourth one in this study. Okay? Very important.
The microbiome. What did I tell you about coffee? There's not a better prebiotic. There's not a better fiber.
This study is showing it. It protects your microbiome from high fructose corn syrup. So what am I saying? Think of people out there.
They're going to go to Starbucks. They're going to go to Tim Horton's. They're going to go to Dunkin' Donuts today. They're going to drink these silly drinks.
Silly drink. When they drink coffee, good. When they drink all the other stuff, okay, there. And when they add syrup to these coffees, okay, listen Linda, okay, they're destroying their microbiome.
It does the carpet ball on the way to the liver. It damages the microbiome. Coffee protects that. Coffee and probiotics.
Renew, replenish, refresh. Okay, that's me. That's me. So the alterations in the microbiome.
Guys, it's incredible, isn't it? Okay. Now I'm going to give you another one. Okay?
There's really fine. And this is how coffee helps uric acid. Not only gout. There's a lot of people that get high levels of uric acid.
You guys know this. We've added uric acid as a biomarker in testing for metabolic syndrome. Get your doctor, get your doctor to order your uric acid levels. And say, Dr.
Martin told me, now don't do that. Don't do that. They might not like that. But you say, look, you got to be your own doctor.
So you say, look, I want this test done. I want my uric acid levels tested. Why? Because it's part of metabolic syndrome.
What happens in the liver? Remember, the liver is very important in the production of uric acid. Everybody makes uric acid. It's a byproduct.
It's sort of a waste product. That's all right. Everybody has it, but you don't want to elevate it. Because when that's happening, it's happening because of the liver and the kidneys.
The kidneys can't flush out the extra uric acid. It can't eliminate it. And that's part of metabolic syndrome, guys. What happens in the liver affects the kidneys.
It affects the kidneys. And remember, 25% of all kidney stones are uric acid. And most people don't know that because they don't know what kind of a kidney stone they ever had. Nobody ever told them.
25% are uric acid. So you get the all-terrain uric acid. So you get the alterations in the microbiome, leaky gut, high fructose corn syrup, part of the carpet bombing of the microbiome at the southern border and the northern border up here. Coffee helps.
Coffee protects your gut. Coffee protects your liver. You get the benefit of the uric acid levels diminishing. And that's an important factor even in metabolic syndrome, because that's what we have done here at the Doctors-In.
We've added it to the checklist of, you know, you check your triglycerides, you check your HDL if you want to know. You know, people, they put their blood work up, okay? You want to put your blood work up in public on our private Facebook group, okay? You want to put your blood work up.
If I see it, I'll comment on it. I don't always see it, okay? But what am I looking at? What do I want to know from your blood work?
Because I was in practice for years, we looked at blood work, tens of thousands of blood work. Here's what I wanted to know about your lipids. What are your triglycerides? That tells me about your liver.
It tells me about your heart. It tells me about metabolic syndrome, which is insulin resistance, which means people are carboholics and they're consuming way too much high-fructose corn syrup in their foods. So I look at HDL, I look at triglycerides. You want to send me everything else?
I don't care. You can't make me care. I'm not heartless. I focus.
Dr. Martin, my cholesterol's high. Good. But I want to know that your triglycerides are low, okay?
Because that's what I'm looking at. Low triglycerides, high HDL. That's what I want. I want your uric acid to be low, okay?
I want your E1C, because that's the one, if you can get a fasting insulin done or your HOMA, okay? Which is insulin resistance test. Get it done. Beautiful.
But I look at E1C. It's a poor man's test, okay? Because it's easy to get your E1C tested. Doctors won't argue with you.
Get your E1C tested. Get your triglycerides. Get your HDL. Get uric acid.
Insist on it. And of course, we've added B2H4. Get your HDL. Get your uric acid.
Insist on it. And of course, we've added B12 and vitamin D to the metabolic syndrome list. Guys, you got gauges in your car? Do you?
I do. Okay. You got gauges? Yeah, I got gauges.
Oh, gas tank is empty. Oh, good to know. The oil light came on. Good to know, right?
It's good to know your gauges, guys. Those are your gauges. And again, okay, so I'm on a tangent about coffee this morning. How good it is for you.
A thousand phytochemicals. A great prebiotic. It feeds your good guys. It protects the lining of your gut to protect you from leaky gut.
It protects your liver. It lowers your uric acid. It protects your heart. My word.
What did I tell you, guys? Over the years, what did I tell you? If you have a coffee with your meal, I don't care if it's decaf, guys. Okay?
